This can be deleted anytime, but I do have something I feel is prudent to be said.

Many of you know that I'm keeping a blog. I've recently received some very hateful comments, and this person has admitted to being a healingwell member. They seem to be too afraid to give their name, but I would simply like to ask that if you do not like to read about what I have to say about my medical life then stay away from my blog.

I'm accused of coming here to do nothing but whine. I disagree, and I know many members will back me up on this.

Folks, we come here to support each other. Not to spread hatred and bigotry. All of us, ALL OF US, have a difficult time with these diseases, and to come out in the open with the things we've experienced is something not many people can do.

This person cannot even give their name.

I simply ask that we, all of us, remain adult and civil towards one another. We're here to be supportive and give advice or constructive criticism. That's what these forums are for.

I also disagree. And even if you did come here just to whine, so what? At least here we can whine to people who understand where we're coming from.

p.s. I just read a bit of your blog. Just delete those hateful comments, no one has a right to judge anyone else.

Lmills don't let the hateful get to you. You are a part of our family here, and you are so right, it is about support. I am sorry someone felt they had that right to say such hateful things.

I did delete them as said.

My main concern is that people here already have a difficult time expressing themselves outside of this website, and the last thing we need is people from here deciding to become a part of that outside world in a hateful manner.

We need to be careful with each other. Someone will be picked on someday that is already broken down, and harmful results may come of it. Myself? I can't help but laugh at this person who is too cowardly to even come out in the open. They're trying to deny being from here now, but I imagine that mentioning the site and telling me that I see them every day is implication enough. All the same, I'm grateful for the rest of you :)

I just hope we can all take note to be careful in the future.

Wow, I just read those comments. Ignore them, delete them.  I guess some people just feel so strongly that they think they need to force their opinions on people. Regardless on who's wrong or right, that was taking it too far.

I agree, Mag. I put the comments to be moderated before they're posted from now on. I don't mind that they disagree, just like I feel like people have the right to disagree here. I think the main issue is whether or not people are able to express it in a civil manner.
Even people without illness have a difficult time facing something so ugly as a person with ill intent. I guess we always have a little bit of growing up to do (or a lot), but it should never be at the cost of our peers. I could never hurt any of you that way. You deserve only the best!!

And you know, I'm thinking, they deny that they're from here, but then how would they know who I am to call
"whiny" in the first place hm? Funny, funny people ;) That is, unless they actually sift through all of these threads to even find my blog link. Ah well, either way.

LMills, might you be able to email me, please?

I have a couple of ideas that might help, but they won't be helpful anymore if I post them here, where the nasty commenter can read them :-).

I miss you, by the way :(

Thanks, LMills. I've missed you quite a lot too :-(

There, we can :-( together...

Looking forward to your email. I'll try to reply immediately, but if you don't hear from me within a few minutes it's because I'm woozy and have gone to lie down for a bit, but will try to write back in a few more hours.

I say again, though, I'll try to write back immediately - just got to finish another note first.

You don't need the nastiness when you come here for support. And you know what I think about you. How about you just listen to me and ignore the nasty anonymous people? *hug*

I hope the Mods don't delete this post! I just looked at your blogspot (very nice - BTW) and whoever wrote those posts is just plain rude. IMHO, blogs are personal conversations with friends and loved ones, and interlopers giving caustic comments just aren't welcome. People like this are disagreeable, useless internet pests.

Ivy-Sent! And you know, that's a great idea. I am definitely going to make an effort to keep all of you in mind when people are trying to be negative.

Fallcolors-I completely agree! And personally, I love reading blogs from HW members because they're so informative and insightful.

I'd like to think that people reading this know that, if they're going to make a public blog in the future concerning their illness, they don't have to worry about the members here reading it.

I just read your blog. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it and no reason for anyone to be hateful to you. If someone doesn't like it, they can just stop reading it and not return. Brush it off, and don't let it intimidate you, inhibit your self-expression, or make you self-conscious. We know what you're facing, and we have your back!

Ugh some people, I know you've probably heard the "don't let them get to you" a million times so I won't say it too :-) you come and do all the 'whining' you want (not that I consider it whining) As my mum would say take it as a compliment they're so fascinated by you!

I just can't believe this person is from HW thats really bothered me. This community is like a haven for me and I hate to think there could be such a horrid person on here, does make you think twice about who reads these.

There are a lot of people who read but never post here. I am going to think positive thoughts that it was not one of our regular posters.

I'd like to agree with FallColors but I'm concered at something specific that person wrote on your blog, leading me to believe that the person does post here, which is sad actually.

LMills, I don't know if by posting about this here on the board might just be adding insult to injury to your blog from this person, seems to me this person may very well be in their glory at the fact that you posted about it here on the board, don't give them the satisfaction. Personally from reading what was written on your blog, they are the hypocrite. I was even reluctant to add a reply to this post cuz I don't really want this person to find glory in all the responses you're getting...this whole thing seems very twisted to me.

Ignore the negative, it'll get you further ahead.

:)

I had thought about that, pb4, but I think the quality of the posts here do anything but serve the plight of an arrogant hypocrite. They seem to be quite alone in their viewpoint, and, if they are a member, they will at least know to be a little bit more cautious before they post something hateful against other members. I know they tried to say that they aren't on this website, but I feel the same way as you. There were a few specific things that make me feel they're only trying to hide. I wanted them to know at least that this kind of bigotry will not be tolerated here.

That, in the end, is my main concern. I don't want anyone else to have to put up with that kind of nonsense, and we all need to feel safe about posting here as well as advertising our own personal websites or blogs.

I see they're attempting to continue their "advice," but I did change some settings so other people won't be put down if they do happen to read comments on my blogs. Personally, I've been affected by comments towards others quite the same way the original target might feel. I don't see any need for that if it can be helped.

Thank you all, by the way. It's always nice to be reminded that we're not alone in the way that we feel. :-) You're all quite wonderful...

Another thing that might help is moving your blog link out of your sig and putting it in your profile. That way it will only be accessible to real, signed up members, and not all the lurkers who just come here through Google.

I get where you're comming from LMills, I hope that by you posting about it here will make this person realize a few things and will in turn make them open their own eyes about the type of person they are to do such a thing...it's very sad and hard to believe really that anyone here would actually do such a thing. Yours was the first blog I've ever read, I'm not really into that stuff, blogs and such, I didn't even know you could post on a person's blog, though I never really knew what they were all about, still not 100% about blogs, I'm not that computer savvy, wouldn't even know how to set one up, not really interested to though either LOL.

Don't let this particular situation ruin anything for you, it's not worth giving negativity the attention.

:)

Hi LM,

I too have checked your blog. I didn't see the comments you're refering too, but there is no reason for that sort of thing.
There is a well known aspect on discussion boards called "trolling". It describes someone who post on boards like this, and writes nothing but disagreeable, insulting comments. It seems that some sick individuals out there only thrive when getting a reaction out of people. Please don't let this get you down, it's just an unfortunate fact of this computer age. Keep on with your blog and focus on doing well.

:(

I hope the mean commenter will remember the story of the mom who pretended to be a boy on a myspace page and made fun of a 13 year old girl. The 13 year old girl killed herself. Words can hurt and there is no reason for cruelty.
27 Year old married female lawyer.  Diagnosed w/ CD 5 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD. I am sort of lactose intollerant but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For Crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night.  I take xanax prn for situational anxiety (aka no easy bathroom access).

pb4-Oh, worry not! I don't really mind their comments directed at me so much as that they could be hateful to anyone in the first place. I definitely do not want them harassing other people on these forums. I worry about everyone...And yes, blogs can be a bit of a hassle sometimes! I like to keep one to let people relate as well as to keep records for myself. I also do writing in a paper journal, but I feel like certain things go in there that should not be online. It's nice to have both :)

Tom-They were under around the 3rd or 4th post, but yes, they were definitely trolling. It seems to be a waste of time to me, but I suppose some people enjoy that kind of thing. Sad, isn't it? I'll take your advice, by the way. Thank you!!

Fitzy-I had forgotten about that, but you're absolutely right...I'm still shocked when I hear that story, but it's just another reminder of how badly words can wound.

Whoever wrote those comments is to be pitied. We can read them and just click right out if we want. LM...you can do the same, or delete (can't you? I don't know that much about blogs, etc.) For you LM, those comments probably hurt your feelies. I know they would mine. I like to think everyone in the whole world likes me. LOL!

Anyway, that poster is to be pitied because that kind of negativity and ill feeling is what that person probably carries around in their heart and mind all the time. To me that would be more painful and miserable than any Crohn's pain.
