thanks all... the AZYGOUS vein is the vein that drains blood from the spine and back area. it runs up the left side of the spine and empties into the SVC, or superior vena cava, just above the heart.. near as they can tell either by bending over in just the right way or some other movement, the tip of my catheter was lifted up past the junction and when i straightened out it went back down the wrong way into the wrong vein.

as for being bummed, yes i am.. for you see the 17th was my ten year anniversary of being on TPN. today the 21st is the tenth anniversary of my death. ok so they got me back after 20-30 minutes, but hey i was dead so i claim it! ;-). and i had my last ultra sound of my clot in my jugular vein today.. and its still there even after having shots every freakin day for 6 months to dissolve it..

so yippee for me, and im getting over a sinus thing that has made me be blowin snot for 6-7 days, and people wonder why i hate the holidays..did i mention i was a mailman? yeah i had to deliver all those boxes everyone sent 3 days before xmas and complained when they did not get there on time. the whole season could be ruined by just one person. now sometimes that person is me.

oh and to top it all off, little F-head popped open last night and i got blood in my recliner and been soaking bandages all day.

Sounds like a sucky Holiday.  sad   Hopefully it will go in properly and cause no other problems.  I've had two abscesses right around Christmas and there is a "special joy" spending quality Holiday time in the ER and OR.  shakehead shakehead shakehead

So yesterday was the 10th anniversary of your death.  So saying "you are dead to me" isn't an insult to you?  devil

Ah, well, Randy. At least they didn't think it was so serious they had to pull the line and slap you on some antibiotics yet yesterday. I guess sometimes we just have to be thankful for small favors (but it still sucks!).

I'm hoping and praying everything went well today. May the worm turn for you and some good luck, good health and happy days spill upon you and yours.

(((hugs))), ole chap!!!

By the way, have you SEEN the number of parcels going thru the mail now, not just at Christmas but year round!!!! Makes me grateful I'm no longer carrying and delivering!!! Just had a get-together and fill-our-face w/some of my ole co-workers last week. It was soooo good to see everyone - but - its a lot tougher service than it was when we were carrying! Leaner and meaner.

Double bummer (F head and needing a new line). I'm sorry Randy - hopefully this line change will go without a glitch. Take care.

Well geez Randy, sorry you're going thru this, hope they get it out and reinserted with no problems. Do you think they will decide to remove the clot surgically? I know it's Christmas, but you don't need any more RED decoration! Hugs, Bets

ok im home, slept for a few hours, now doing an update to be followed by more sleep .. despite all the thoughts and prayers some of you were obviously slacking!

it was bad from the get-go.. only some versed, no pain meds this time. they could not tell me why. even though a stink was made by me.. they did not tell me till i was prepped. i dang near called it off.

the lidocane around the site hurt like heII. and wore off quickly. the line would not come out so pulling and tugging ensued for about and hour. finally more lidocane was used and cutting with scalpels ensued.. without pain meds! i was awake and alert the entire time! it hurt , i told him so every cut i could feelso for 2 hours i endured this barbarism. they had to cut about every 2 inches down from my neck to the site to get the pieces out after they chopped it up. never again will anyone do this to me without some darn fentenyl.

so from beginning to end it was 8 hour thing. but its in, its working and its sore as heck . by for now will see if i can update more later. thanks for all the well wishes

Oh that is horibble!!! Have they run out of pain meds out there?? Are they just sadistic? I have never heard of such a thing. I would call their administration office and complain loudly!!

I hope you are resting more comfortably now. Sleep is best and I hope you can now relax.

Take care Randy!

Oh, Randy!!! (((hugs))) I do so hope you sleep thru most of the pain and wake to no more than discomfort!!

I'd sure be demanding to know WHY no adequate pain relief and telling them where they can stick their Lidocaine!

We are all so different! The Lidocaine worked wonderfully for me for my fine needle aspiration biopsy of my thyroid. Of course, it was no where near so long a procedure as you ended up going thru.

BUT - I had fentanyl for the first time w/my recent colonoscopy and I was so drugged, groggy, nauseous and dry heaving if they ever come near me w/it again I'll shove it up their ......

(((hugs))), my friend.

eyes I can see why you'd be awfully cut up, I would've been hacked off if they tried that on me...Of course it was bound to be unsuccessful, they were doing it in vein... yeah
Seriously though, glad to hear it is over and you are back, and there were no arresting problems, you must be dead tired. Get well soon....even if only by your standards. wink yeah

felt like it sniper but with the blue drape over my face i couldnt see.. i heard no drummimg or chants though. started cleaning some of the bandages up tonight.. they didnt stitch the new cuts, they have some type of glue or liquid skin on them. looks like wood putty to me! and bruises! they must have been holding on with vise grips or something. the bad part is the directions say not to shower for 3 days.. untill the stuff is cured. well after 3 days, i might be cured like a ham! xmas should be so fun. too bad we dont have compusmell, or i could send some holiday aroma to you all.
