I am scheduled for a colonoscopy on Monday and I really need one badly. However I just started getting sick last week so I don't know if they'll be able to do it. I don't have a fever and I think it started with allergies but its in my lungs now. I've been having some nasty productive coughs for the last week and its not getting any better. Anyway, does anyone know if they will put you under if you are having respiratory issues? I wouldn't think they would and I don't want to go through the prep if they can't do it but I really need to have this done while I'm home for the holidays.

Merry Christmas :)

It's probably best to call ASAP and see what they say. I believe if you're having trouble breathing, it's a no go, since the drugs they administer suppress breathing and you don't want low oxygen levels to the brain.

Just from your saying it's been a nasty productive cough, I'd guess bronchitis so you'd be all right to get it done, but I'm no doctor.

Maybe you can try to call the doctors on call service and ask. I think you should be able to go ahead with the test, but I think it can't hurt to ask.
