Except for a few antibiotics used regularly with Crohns such as Cipro and Flagyl, most antibiotics upset the applecart for most of us Crohnies. And just fyi, with Crohns there is no cure even when using antibiotics. Good luck!

A very, very, VERY long month of both Cipro and Flagyl did stop the bleeding and tons of mucus I was suffering from for ages.  Taking them that long is reallllly hard on your stomach though, and I felt pretty bad the entire time.  Once I came off them though, things were indeed better.  It's not a fix, but it did help me.

This is a good reminder to take probiotics if you have IBD since IBDers tend to have bacterial over-growth...antibiotics kill pretty much everything making our systems even more vulnerable...take your probitoics at least 2 hours after you're done taking antibiotics for the day...taking a good probiotic daily and indefinitely (even while in remission) is strongly recommended.

:)
bee propolis caps 500mg one cap twice/day
omegas 369 caps one cap twice/day
probiotics 10 billion cfu once/day
vitamins C-calcium ascorbate (easy on the gut) and vitamin A each once/day
Prodiem fibre supplement one cap before bed
I've also altered my diet (no junky stuff at all, processed, fast-foods, refined sugars, ect) and exercise regularly.
I went from 30+ bloody BM's/day with lots of lower back pain to an average of 5/day no bleeding no back pain and completely formed stools, still have severe urgency issues.
~~~~~~~~My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)~~~~~~~~
1 1/2 years ago I did 6 months of Flagyl and Levaquin with Entocort mixed in, along with my normal dose of Immuran to get a massive flare under control, it was a very long 6 months, ended up by 6 months I had to lower my dose of Flagyl from 2000mg to 1000mg becuase I was getting tingling in my feet from it.  I was never so happy to get off the Flagyl and Levaquin after being on them for so long.  I had massive yeast infections no matter how much Diflucan and TON's of Probioitcs I took - I just couldn't keep up with the Probiotics with taking Flagyl every 6 hours which killed the good bacteria.
This combo of antibioitcs was able to get the Crohn's under control and a recto-vaginal fistula to settle down.
But ABX GAVE me Acid Reflux as those drugs eat away the lining of your stomach - same with Prednisone.  Took me quite a few months to get the Acid Reflux to settle - only cure for me to get it settled was lots of veggies,  slipperly elm and probiotics.
Now this past summer when I flared again my GI didn't go the ABX combo, cause it is really hard on your system plus he didn't want my body to get over exposed to ABX, and since I had to go off of Immuran, he did the Pred, Entocort and then introduced Methotrexate as my new med.
