Has anybody ever had this happen:
I froze my Humira pens!

My wife accidentally put my 2 remaining shots of Humira in the freezer along with the freezer packs! (from 6 pen starter kit)
We noticed this after about 2 hours and the liquid in the pens were frozen.
They have since thawed out and are clear looking.
However, the paperwork says not to freeze and to discard if frozen.
We called Humira and the Safety Dept. is calling us back on Monday.  The nurse operator says this happens all the time.  "not to worry".
We are worried they will run thru insurance again to replace the 2 pens and it will get denied.  We can't afford the non-copay price.
Hope they just send us 2 replacement pens for free.... God knows the drug companies make enough money!

Would like to hear from anyone who has accidentally frozen their Humira pen, or has received a shipped pen in a frozen state.
Thanks!

I haven't accidentally frozen mine, but had to have one replaced because when I was in the hospital and it was time for my shot, my bf brought the box to me, and the additional one in the box was left in my suitcase for a few days. I thought the box was empty and he put it in my bag because it had all my info on it, but it had a pen left in it. They sent a new box of 2 out to me and didn't charge me at all. They were really nice about it all.

Good luck!

Well lets hope they are nice about it and send me 2 for free because I won't pay there price for them and would rather take my chances using the ones that I have.
Thanks for the replies and I'll keep you posted as what happens.

Oh no! I'm under the impression that freezing Humira makes it useless. Hopefully they give you a freebie!

Thanks Teddybear! The nurse last night said that this is not the first time that this has happened and tha the safety dept will call on Monday and tell us our fate.
What do you think I will have to do with frozen ones? Will they have me send them back or dispose of them?

I didnt freeze mine but my Humira pens were in the fridge and it stopped working. It was a day before we noticed because they were in the down stairs fridge. Humira sent me 2 freebies to replace them. hope they do the same for you!!!
20 yr old female, dx'd in 02, struggled for a year with controlling this retarded disease. Finally got on Remicade(miracle drug for me-at the time) was in remission until summer of 09. Remicade stopped working, switched to Humira. Had my first surgery, half the colon and some of the small intestine removed. developed abscesses. it was messy. Currently on no Crohns meds, going to probably start the Humira again soon.

I just had to dispose of them. Didn't have to provide proof or send them back or anything!

Well Humira wanted me to see if my insurance would pay for it and they would'nt. Humira then said that they would do a one time replacement for free.
Whew! I did not want to have to pay for this. So life is good again.
