I have been having severe intermittent nerve pain in my groin the past several days. It comes on suddenly and feels like I've been hit with a taser gun! It comes on suddenly sitting, lying down or standing, and has even woken me up from a deep sleep, but it will dissipate if I switch positions. I saw my internist today, and he believes I might have a disc problem in my back. He started me on Celebrex ( which he says won't hurt the Crohn's but I'm skeptical) and wants me to start neurontin for the nerve pain. He also referred me for physical therapy. I am very nervous about adding new meds. My Crohn's seems to be in remission with the exception of increased constipation...but that may be just IBS. I see my GI on Jan. 18, so I might wait to discuss it with him, and also see what the physical therapist thinks. These are all brand new symptoms. Any advice would be appreciated. I'd sure hate to start another Crohn's flare. I'm also wondering if the constipation issue is somehow pressing on a nerve and it is not back related. My internist doesn't think so...just wondering about other opinions???

I used Neurontin after my first resection for adhesion pain I was having. It worked fine for me and didn't bother my Crohns. It will make you a little drowsy at first until you adjust to it, but it did help that nerve pain. Good luck!

gumby...I had a severe disk problem and now have permanent nerve issues in my leg. The pain is eactly like what you describe. i call it a railroad spike heated to 200 degrees being driven into the bottom of my foot. I have not tried neurontin yet. A friend with Guillan-Barre (sp???) used it, but it left him too groggy

Celebrex wreaked havoc with my gut so I don't know if you will have issues. It has some of the same issues as advil, etc have.

I would get your back checked out asap...I waited a long time before doing anything and am paying with the long term issues now. In the mean time, try this to help alleviate nerve pinches in your spinal area. Stand face against the wall, leave hips at the wal and pushthe rest of your upper back away from the wall with your hands - also works laying on your stomach on floor, but the wall lets me do it throughout the day.

im having the same problem in my lower back left and right side that first started after lifting. Its achy yes at times but also better at times. Right now i can't even stand up and walk without a walker, i also can stand without it.

If i cough, Ill get this HUGE jolt of pain that can send me to my knees and take my breathe away.
It also can happen if I step up something or move awkwardly. 10/10 pain... does that sound like nerve?

there's Hope

I have been taking Nurotin for about a year now and have had great results with it! It doesnt bother my stomach and makes the pain tolerable so I can function. The Celebrex KILLED my stomach, I wish you luck with it!!

Habs..I'm not sure I understand the exercise. Are you just keeping your hips on the wall and arching your back?? I have an appointment on the 18th with my GI. Maybe I'll stop the Celebrex until I talk to him. He understands Crohn's better than my internist and he knows what I've been through! Thanks for the advice.

Neurontin made me feel horrible and made me crazy, so I will never take it again.  I tried Celebrex for my arthritis and I don't think it bothered my stomach or Crohn's, but it didn't work either.  Good luck!

Gumby...the exercise is mostly to get the arch in your lower back better.  It seems to release the nerve pain down my leg.  The goal is to keep your hips against the wall (or on the floor) and push as far back as you can with your shoulders.  Although I no longer have the protruding disk, the exercise still relieves some of the pain in the leg and lower tushy.
