I am taking prednisone (have been for the past 4 weeks) since I had a flare a month ago - I have been on it before (higher doses in IV in hospital then on it for a few months) and this time I am tapering sooner - but my face is starting to get a little puffy.  I can't remember from before - once you are completely off prenisone, how soon do the side effects like puffiness go away?  Is there anything you can do (aside from cut out salt, maybe eat more grapefruits, etc) to make the puffiness go away faster?

I know there are worse things in this world but it is so hard to date and have Crohn's.  Anyone who is already married, go give your spouse a big hug. :)

I was diagnosed with Crohn's in August 2009 and finished my first round of Prednisone at the end of November. I only did 6 weeks of it and only 40mg but I am STILL waiting for the rest of my moon face to disappear and the abdominal chub to go away. I noticed that the face started to go away about 2 weeks after I finished tapering off but it seems to be hanging around. I have been working out like a fiend when I am not in pain but can't seem to get rid of it. ANY suggestions that anyone has would be great.

Prednisone also gives me insomnia, so I used to stack my pillows up and stay in bed but propped up until it was time to go to work - it helps a teensy bit to use gravity in this situation - I also completely cut out additional sodium and only ate whole foods (rice, quinoa, tofu, veggies, bread, etc) - I couldn't eat at all when I was sick and so cut out all meat & dairy and that seemed to help also.  I am trying to do that now but don't want to go comepletely vegan then go to dinner with friends and splurge and make my stomach have a meltdown.

Someone suggested water pills, which I am not going to do.  I have to take enough unnatural things to stay well (for which I am thankful but it's obviously not ideal) so don't want to take anything else.

If you are drinking water, add a couple slices of lemon. Natural detoxifier and really helps flush out the excess water retention. I swear my grocery store must think that I am in the lemonade business I buy so many of them! :)

I'm not sure what to recommend but I've got a puffy face too! Good thing my boyfriend thinks it's cute (or so he says). I won't be off pred completely until I think mid march... so looks like I will be sporting the puffy face look for my birthday :(

Usually the puffiness will go away within about 3-4 weeks after you get off the pred. Be patient, better days are ahead. Hugs!
