I have notices something new with my abdomen in the last month.  I have tenderness in the lower right quadrant of my abdomen frequently, but it is tolerable.  Sometimes when I am lying down I rub that area.  I noticed a bulging in this area occassionally.  It will become firm there and it feels like it is possible air/gas or stool that is right there, maybe?  Has anyone ever had this or know what it is?
Diagnosed with CD 3 years ago.  Refused to take meds until recently started Colazal.
Currently on Prednisone 40mg. Tapering down, now on 20mg.
Colazal 3xday, Antioxidant strips
 Off of the Prednisone!!

yeah I've had this for donkey's years, it is one of the ways that I keep track of how bad the inflammation is.
My understanding - nonoI don't know how accurate this is, others here will have a better idea I'm sure - is that the whole thickness of the gut lining increases with the inflammatory process as it goes into the three different layers of mucosa, and that is what causes the bulge. It also causes narrowing of the inner diameter of course, so that can cause a buildup of gas, slowing of transit of faeces etc. Eventually it can lead to permanent scarring, and so a stricture I suppose; in my case it comes and goes, so I am hoping there is no permanent scarring.
It seems to always accompany an increase in abdominal pain (not necessarily in that site) and other signs of a flare (fever etc) so I'm pretty sure it isn't coincidental.

That is generally where most Crohnies have their pain. Could be inflammation in the area, or a stricture going on in the area. I would run this by your GI, better safe than sorry. Good luck!

This comes and goes with me. The pain isn't very bad just some discomfort. Actually I always have some tenderness except when I was on the prednisone. I did tell my GI doc but at the time it wasn't there. (the hardness or bulge) He felt around and didn't seem to have an answer. A way to describe it is it is about 3 to 4 inches long and it is what would seem the shape of my colon so it is prbably gas or stool. So I guess this is part of crohn's.....I will keep an eye on it.
