I'm on Remicade and Methotrexate. I got my last infusion of Remicade about 4 weeks ago. It's supposed to last 8 weeks. I was doing SCD but then cheated over Christmas and since then things have not been the same. I'm having much more frequency and D. So I'm assuming I'm in a flare.

Will this flare possibly go away on it's own if I eat soft foods? I'm already on hard core drugs, so I'm wondering what else would be done at this point. I suppose prednisone, but when I first got diagnosed I was on it, and it didn't do much. Plus I hate the side effects. I'm hoping that I can possibly get out of this flare with dietary measures considering I'm already on the big gun meds. From your experience, can flares go away on their own?

Sure they can, especially with diet modifications that remove things that may be adding to the inflammation. Crohns is a disease of intermittent activity in most people . .  meaning it tends to wax and wane, with or without medication sometimes. But just because something is posible with Crohns in general does not mean it is likely or certain with any specific patient. I learned a long time ago that the best way to think of this disease is not as some generic thing called Crohns but as my own particular case at this particular point in time. Everyone is different.

Octobergirl, do you live a parallel life to mine? :)

I have the same problem - I was on and off for November (could deal with it, chalked it up to stress) but had to take antibiotics and in the middle of December had a flare where I was out of work for 2 weeks.  My dr put me on Flagyl, Cipro and Prednisone (40 mg and yes, I was the one whoe swore I would never take it again :)

So I was coming along nicely, resting at home, not eating a lot, Christmas came and I was fine eating (still not drinking alcohol b/c of the Flagyl) then New Years I went out and had champagne and a grand old time and the in the beginning of January I started again with the D with b and m and lots of, er, wind.  I have gone out twice since then with my friends and had a few drinks and overindulged a bit with the eating but get back on track the next day with a mainly vegan diet.  I have been doing yoga and meditating and exercising and the past few days but I am feeling like I am getting worse.  I had my Remicade 3 1/2 weeks ago AND am on Prednisone - how much more can a girl take?  I was on 40 mg to start then started to taper until I got down to 15 mg - I started back up to 30 to see if I can get this flare to back away.

Here is my problem - I have big plans this weekend with a new boy and am not going to be around any of my familiar surroundings.  IFor the next 24 hours i am not eating anything except miso soup and maybe a banana to see if I can give my insides a rest and let the Pred take over.

What do I do?  Cancel my weekend?  Again?  Or do I go and just eat and drink a little and say I have stomach problems and don't want to be in the car for too long?  Ugh.

Thanks, Mike. You're right, everyone is different. I can't expect my case to be like anyone elses.

Wednesday, you crack me up. Yes, we do seem to have similar issues don't we! I'm sorry you're not feeling well. Are you feeling any better after upping your pred? I'm going to the doc on Monday and am fearful he'll put me back on pred. Blech. I hate that stuff. Good luck on your date this weekend. Hope it goes well. I hope everything calms down by then.

I know you can't drink on Flagyl, but why not on Prednisone?  My GI doc said it was fine.

Artist guy, do you fast with just water or do have any diluted juices or anything? Have you found fasting to be pretty effective? I'm about ready to try anything, so I think I'll fast tomorrow when I don't have to work so if I'm exhausted it's not such a big deal. How long do you just have the broth?

Thanks!

hey,I drink electrolyte mix, it has kind of mineraly taste which I like. but when I have what is called gas blockage I put nothing in my mouth not evan water. just take vicodon until I can pass some gas then I know the blockage is easing up then I go for broth. but I'll say this when it does happen I call in sick at work. I'm also blackjack dealer at large casino and I have what is called on going medical, where i can call in sick 84 days a year without getting fired. excuse my language but **** them it's my disease with my pain. my art work i can do while on pain meds so my casino dosen't know that. It's all about insurance and $$$$. the mix is called electroMix tm. I get it at henry's emergenc.com.  I feel your pain, big time
