I've had crohn's since 1970 and never had the newer drugs that is out there , I was given azulfidine and pred, with very heavy pain med. I went from being a horse jockey at 110 pounds to 75 lb's. I had a bowel resection that didn't work, then a major obstucion where they removed 8ft of diseseaed small intestine. luckily my cd was not spred everywhere just in the one area.after that surgery no med's what so ever and back at the horse track in 8 weeks racing in 12 weeks then 6 years later started to flare. stil no meds just dealt with it dr's said it was probable scare tissue where it was resected at. but 1988 while racing i broke my jaw and had my mouth wired up for 12 weeks, my flare took off up in an up roar. 1989 i had an elective resection which was active crohns where they did the original resection, good to go for another 5 years no meds, but stated to flare once more, now 2005 retired from racing due to broken neck in1991. 2005 got job with insurance and got dr and gi guy colonoscopy showed cd where they did resection , now 3 colonoscopy's later still active cd but it has moved up into my throat and mouth area as well as resection area, I was on entocort but wouldn't budge my throat or mouth area, helped my stomach, so now I'm on pred and vicodon. V when it is flare and I call it a gas blockage. now my queation i'm on pred for inflamtion in my throat and mouth but it appears pred is constipated me anybody get that effect when taking pred. please tell me I'm not the only one

Hey artist guy I always get a little constipated on Pred. I take stool softners nightly to help keep things softer and easier to pass. Drinking lots of water helps too. Good luck!

If prednisone works the way it is supposed to and calms the inflammation in your body it almost works TOO well and makes the D stop and many people get constipation.  That happens to me once I "recover" from a flare.
If you are not fully healed right now another thought might be that the Vicodin is making you constipated.  It usually does for a lot of people, depending on how frequently you are taking it.
Good luck!

I am constipated from prednisone and have a very angry protruding thrombosis hemmoroid which I'm scheduled for surgery for tomorrow ....

My biggest fear is a BM tomorrow morning ... yikes! I wish I thought to pick up some stool softners at the drug store ... I'm only used to the runs, ha!

I've upped my fiber overall and not taking pain meds although I really want to!
