I have been dealing with this pain in my stomach at least once a year for the past 17 years.
It started at age 16. The dr.'s could not find the reason for the pain in my stomach. They thought kidney stones or apendix.
Friday I had another attack! I can't take it anymore. The pain is so severre. Feels like someone is squeezing my stomach & pouring acid on my intestines!!!!! (Sorry to be so graphic but it is that painful). The pain comes & goes every 10-30 min.
I had diarrhea, vommitting (tasted chalky or like maybe vitamins), intense pain in stomach (above my belly button) & chills.
I would litterally be doubled over & could not walk!
Did not go to hospital this time since everyother time all I do is sit in emergency(in pain) & they find & do nothing for me!!!!!
I plan on seeing a specialist.
Saw a commercial for ulcerative colitis & thought maybe this is what I may have or maybe it is Crohn's Disease.
Researched a little!

Looking for any advice!!!!!!!Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!

I think you really need to talk to your doc. He/she will be only one who can diagnose you. There are lots of things beside crohns or colitis that could be causing your prob. E-coli & salmonella also cause what you are describing. Just call your doc and write down all your sympt. before you go. Wish you luck hope you dont have either.

Have they checked your gallbladder? Also, you say the pain comes and goes every 10-30 mins, but how long does each "attack" last for overall?

Your symptoms could also describe a partial obstruction. I think you really need to get in with a good gastroenterologist and get some testing done. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks everyone! Normally the attack will last about 30 sec-1 min. But the pains is so intense I cannot breath!!!!!!It will come & go every 10-30 min. It is just so weird??????????
I know the minute I feel the start of this episode what it will be like. I have had this for 17 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So frustrating!!!! I really can't handle anymore of the pain.
Maybe I am prone to some kind of virus? It is just the fact that it comes back all the time makes me believe it is some kind of build up or something that develops over the year.

Well, thanks again,

Tired & confused

My advice is to go to a specialist until the diagnos you ... what you are expereince in not normal and you should not be in this much pain. It took 1 1/2 years to diagnose me with Crohn's.  When you are talking about the intestinal track (mouth to anus) it could be any of many diseases.  If you are in too much pain, go to another emergency room - even in a next city!  Don't take no for an answer. Just b/c they can't find something, doesn't mean nothing is wrong. Sometimes it is best to go when you are actively having symptoms ..... good luck and keep us posted.
Diagnosed with Crohn's 2004 via pill camera    Imuran (6MP) kicked into remission (along with modified diet) so went off in 2006.

2009/2010 acute flare and hospitalization - put back on Imuran. Currently taking 55 mg prednisone.
Current problem - protruding thrombosis hemorrhoid.

Hey there,

Abdominal pain should be checked out and in 17 years I would have hoped by now your physicians would have ordered some tests?

I agree you should see a GI specialist to get to the bottom of your problem.

Good Luck,

I still think it sounds like you might be having at least partial obstructions. A small bowel follow thru is the best test to diagnose a stricture. Good luck!

I agree with Nanners, I also go through what you describe when I have a partial obstruction. My pain cycles every 3-5 minutes and yes the peaks are unbearable. Chills are common and the pain is also above my belly button to start, then it goes in a band about 10-12 inches high all the way ariound my abdoman and back.

Make yourself an appointment with a reputable GI doc and get scoped. From what I've read, people experience Crohn's in different ways and to different degrees. I can tell you this...my daughter's pain is in the middle of her stomach and she does get chills when it is really bad. The pain can be intense. She has screamed out HELP ME!

I'm the next here to get scoped as soon as I can get around to taking care of myself instead of always others. I've had pain similar to hers (lower right side in my case tho) since I was 15 years old. Told every Doc I've ever seen, been to ER twice in my life for it.  No one has helped me or even ever guessed that it might be GI related. They've all assumed it was female stuff. Even removed an ovary. I'm 42 now and still occassionally feel this pain...maybe only a few times a year, but it's like being knifed.  I'm assuming at this point that I probably have undiagnosed Crohn's (or some other related GI issue) and this is where my daughter inherited her disease.

I used to have something like this happen every few years most of my life. It wan't until after my dx that I realized it was probably Crohn's all along. With me, when the pain pulsed each time it was worse then the last and after the last pain I would only have seconds to get to a toilet before Poop-St. Helens. Are your pains followed by explosive diarrhea?
