I just saw my Dr. today.  It's been 2.5 yrs since being diagnosed with Crohn's.  Weened off of Entocort over the course of a yr, been on Pentasa only for 6mos.  Just went through a month or so of having constipation for 4-6 days, then the fun day of cramps and catching up for those 4-6 days.   This is my usual....I'm good for a couple of months and then go through this.

Dr is concerned about scarring and stricture (?) so wants to refer me to another Dr or Surgeon to do the next colonoscopy.  Thinks that dilation might be an option and that way the other qualified dr could do it if it seems appropriate at the time of the colonoscopy.

I know nothing about this procedure...is this something that I should be concerned about. Especially since it's something that I won't know if they are going to do or not?

Any advice would be great.  Don't know if I gave the right info to get your advice...but hope so.

Do you stay on maintainence meds even while feeling better? If not, you really should. I think if you are going off meds and then having these bad spells, your body just goes back into flare mode without the meds. You could be doing alot of damage to yourself without the medication. Most folks do get some relief from the dialation. But I have heard that it only usually lasts about 6 mos to a year. Good luck!

Nanners--Yes, I've been on maintenance meds but seems like I still have these spells. So, the Dr wants to go this route first and then look at maybe adding 6mp rather than just the pentasa.  I kept pushing off the idea of the 6mp back in the Spring when I could seem to wean off of the entocort and the Dr brought it up as a possibility.

I guess it's easier to be in denial with C (which I tend to get) than when you have to run off to the bathroom with D throughout the day.  I've gotten so used to not being well for many years, that I just think it's normal  until the Dr tells me its not.

Thanks for your response!
