Well, I saw the surgeon yesterday and he said that my hemorrhoids are not thrombosed (they were on Sunday but went down after Acute Care doc gave me an RX for Anusol) and had no blood clots. He gave me Anusol suppositories (does this thing have spell check???) which I've been using.  I've added stool softners (thanks to advice of this post and added a physillum shake every AM) which is helping.  I should say that I've been in remission for years and had a bad flare, ending up in the hospital a few weeks ago.  I'm on 55mg of prednisone and 50mg of imuran.

For the time I as in remission, I ate a very high fiber diet and had no former stools. Now on prednisone, I have formed stools and my body is struggling how to deal with them. Additionally, I'm figuring out what to eat that doesn't cause gas, distention and pain.

Meanwhile .. my bottom hurts all the time.  And I'm trying to get around for job interviews!  Throbbing so these are internal ones.  Also, I have pain and pressure in my preineum.  I should also say that I have mouth and tongue sores for first time.

Any suggestions?

Definetly sounds as if you are flaring. I am wondering if what you think are hemmoroids aren't really skin tags that have been irritated by your flare. Hopefully PB4 will be along, she has some links so you can tell the difference between hemmoroids and skin tags. Good luck!

Was the surgeon a Colo/Rectal Surgeon?

If not, I would suggest getting an appointment with one...since you have a Crohn's dx I'd be worried about skin tags/fissures and if it's not a C/R Surgeon they could treat you incorrectly:(

Just a general surgeon so good idea to find specialist but that would take a 2 hour drive!

I have examined myself well (handy make-up mirror) and gone on several websites to look a photos.  My hemmies on Sunday looked like stage 4 protruding thromosed hemmorhoid ... it was the size of a walnut and purplish and throbbed and hurt. Do skin tags and fisures hurt?

He looked in with a scope for all of 3 seconds and said that they are protroding hemmies as well as internally ... and that he didn't see any blood clot (I've not seen one either).  On all the hem. websites, the one pre-existing condition they site is Crohn's. Given that I'm in a flare right now, and that I'm having mouth sores (new to me), it might be more than just the typical hem.

Is there spell check on this thing?  As a journalism undergrad, drives me nuts to spell things wrong!

THANKS!!!

Hi champagnekindofgal,

This is the link dear nanners was likely talking about that show pics of hemmies (first set above) and below those, pic of perianal crohn's skin tags....

From what you describe it does sound like it's actually hemmies that are your issue (purplish color), perianal skin tags can hurt, for some it doesn't bother them at all.

witch Hazel can be very affective for hemmies, same with lots of sitz baths (use lots of epsom salts in your sitz baths)...stick with fibre though (try in the form of supplements) they help with D or C and although they can initially cause excess bloating and gas, once your system adjusts to them they will actually keep bloating at bay, the gas it will cut back substantially...I was super bloated and gassy and my GI suggested fibre supplements daily and indefinitely, once my system adjusted then no more bloating and very little gas, as well as formed (easy to pass) stools and less frequency too.  Drink lots of water as well.

Feel better soon, I know how horrible anal pain can be...it's forever etched into my brain from what I went through with perianal crohn's skin tags.

:)
bee propolis caps 500mg one cap twice/day
omegas 369 caps one cap twice/day
probiotics 10 billion cfu once/day
vitamins C-calcium ascorbate (easy on the gut) and vitamin A each once/day
Prodiem fibre supplement one cap before bed
I've also altered my diet (no junky stuff at all, processed, fast-foods, refined sugars, ect) and exercise regularly.
I went from 30+ bloody BM's/day with lots of lower back pain to an average of 5/day no bleeding no back pain and completely formed stools, still have severe urgency issues.
~~~~~~~~My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)~~~~~~~~
Cut and paste from your word processor to spell check.
Thanks for all the suggestions (spell check too!). Turns out I don't ahve to have surgery as they are no longer thrombosed but are still painful. My GP suggested witch hazel too which I've added to my now daily fiber and stool softners. Now for my mouth sores .....
Hi Champagne girl. This is my first time on any chat room dealing with Crohn's.I'm finding it immensely illuminating and not so lonely to find out what other Crohn's sufferers are experiencing. I am 64 diagnosed in 1998 and have had one bowel ressection. Just got out of Cedars Sinai Weds after total obstruction. Am on 40mg of Prednisone and feeling better. Regarding your sores in the mouth and on your tongue. I believe these are referred to as Apthous sores. I experienced them in a very severe form about 1 year ago as part of a presentation of Crohn's symptoms at the time. My primary care doctor and my gastro guy couldn't seem to get a handle on it . I got to the point where I could hardly swallow because of the pain. Finally my primary care doc sent me to an ENT doc who was an old veteran. He took one look shook his head in sympathy and told me what to do. He explained that since I had just come off of Vancomycin (because of a serious Staph infection of skin lesions all over my torso) that it affected the bacteria in my body and killed off much of this good bacteria. I was extremely skeptical about his recommendation because I was in such pain and had already seen two doctors who didn't know what to do but I did what he said. He recommended that I get a yogurt with active bacteria and just take a few teaspoonfuls each day and it would probably go away in about three weeks. And by God, it started to ease up after day two and was finally all gone after about six weeks. Just get a big tub of Dannon Activa yogurt, it might help.
Stay thankful and know that all of life is unfolding just as it is supposed to.
