Hi everyone.  I am new on this board and looking for some advise.  I was dx'd with Crohn's about 5 yrs ago but I suspect that it was there long before the diagnosis.  I was lucky enough to be working with great doctors who were able to see what I was going through on a  daily basis and gave me my diagnosis before I was even scoped.  I followed everything that was suggested to me by my general and gastro.  Up until now, I had only had small flares about twice a year.  Right now, I am having the worst flare of my life...its been over a month and I am still unwell.  I have stomach cramps on a daily basis.  My diarrhea comes and goes but when it comes BOY is it bad (sorry TMI).  It seems that no matter what I eat (or dont eat) upsets my stomach.  I have tried to rest my stomach and do fluids for a few days but that doesn't help either and in the end I only end up feeling weaker.   I had bouts of nausea at the beginning of the flare but they went they come and go.   I have also been having slight fevers the last few days and a sore throat that feels like it goes into my stomach.  I dont know if I am going crazy but I think that the inflammation is effecting my eyes now.  My eyes feels as if I've been swimming all day and it also feels like I have a bit of dry eyes.   The eye pain makes it uncomfortable to wear my contacts so I'm using my glasses until this subsides.   I look horrible (like a zombie) and I feel weak constantly.   It really takes alot out of me to do my daily routine at home.  My doctor told me to rest when I am feeling weak/tired but if I were to do that, I'd be in bed sleeping the WHOLE day.  My gastro also would like to scope me again but he wants to wait for the inflamation to go down before doing the endoscopy and colonoscopy but my insides are really not cooperating and the inflamation is not resolving.
All of this has me a bit scared and very upset.  Its come to the point where I cant even leave my house.  I had to go on disability because I could no longer go to work because of all of the problems that I was having.  My paternal grandmother died of either stomach or intestinal cancer (my dad cant remember) and my father had a intestinal surgery in his early 40's because they found, all of these symptoms are scaring me.  I'm only 33 and I honestly feel so old because of this.
As I'm sure that most of you understand, I'm so sick of being sick.  I just want to live a semi-normal life and be able to do my normal things again.  I am lucky enough to have a husband that helps me and is extremely understanding.  That makes my life alot easier.
Thanks for your time and for reading this far.  I know that there was a lot of info and I appreciate your time.
Can you all tell me what you're experiences were?............
Have you guys been though these symptoms?  If so, how did you get relief?
Did they change your meds?  What combination worked for you?

My current Crohn's meds are:
Pentasa 2 gms BID
Nascobal Inhalation (B12) 1 spray q wk
Mercaptopurine (6-MP)
Librax prn pain *which is daily at the moment*
Humira shots (were increased at the start of this current flare...from bi-weekly to weekly)
Prednisone (I did a few weeks at the begining of this flare but I refuse to go back on because of all of the side effects)
My other meds are:
Glucophage 2,000 mg qd
Toprol XL 100 mg qd
Methyldopa 250 mg bid
Nifedipine ER
Calcium + D
Folic Acid

Gigi, they have not put me on the heavier drugs like you are on so I couldn't speak to that. I am fairly new to all of this too and having issues as well. However, I do know that glucophage can cause gas and diarrhea. I take it you have type 2 diabetes? How is that going right now? It has to be tough to have both, bless your heart. I have pre diabetes and high cholesterol. I know that right now, there are no lipid drugs that I can take. I tried to take glucophage once but the gas and diarrhea kept me up all night. Good luck Gigi.

Hi Gigi and welcome to Healingwell. Just sorry you have to be here. Have you tried Entocort yet? It is a steroid also, but has way less side effects than Prednisone. I was thinking that would be helpful to you to maybe get this flare back under control. I would also try to stick with a low residue type diet. Thats the diet I follow, its easy to chew, easy to digest. You can google the diet and get some ideas. I hope you get feeling better soon, and feel free to come here and vent all you like, we do understand. Hugs!

P.S. Could you please go in the control panel and edit your signature. Forum rules require signatures to be no more than 10 lines including spaces. Thank you for your understanding*

Jeannec- Hi and thanks for responding. Yes, I do know the effects glucophage but I have been on it for some years now. So, the glucophage doesn't effect me that way anymore...but BOY did it take some getting used to! lol
I do not have diabetes. I take it to help me ovulate since I am trying to concieve and I have policystic ovaries (PCOS). It helps bring me a fairly regular menstrual cycle (most times).

Nanners- Hi! Thanks for the info. I will definitely look up that diet. At this point, I will try almost anything to get some relief.
I believe that I left the "signature" portion blank.

Thanks so much!
