Hello all!  As a new member I wanted to introduce myself and outline my current condition.

In a little more detail to my signature below; I first displayed signs of weight loss and abdominal pain in late 2003.  I was diagnosed in March 2004 by a small bowel follow through and a colonoscopy.  November 2004 started having pain in abdominal region which turned out to be a large abscess.  The abscess was drained, put on CVN and January 2005 had a resection.  Since the surgery I have been battling perirectal abscesses and occasional blood in stool.  I have had several setons placed and taken out as several doctors have attempted to address the fistulas.

Lately, I have been experiencing severe abscesses that have caused fevers, sweats, chills, and a tender left buttock.   Monday I will be undergoing a general surgery to reinstall a seton(s) and evaluate how many glands have fistulas.   My GI doctor will evaluate my latest colonoscopy, MRI, Monday’s surgery, and my history and will likely stat an additional medication.  Most likely it will be Remicade or another infusion drug.

Overall, it has been the perirectal abscesses that have affected my livelihood and hope they can be maintained (as elimination is highly unlikely).

As I have reviewed recent posts it is extremely clear that each of our cases is unique.   However, I few things that I am unaware of is about B12 benefits and infusion medication side affects.

I am anxious to be an active member in this forum and hopefully gain and share information.

Diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease of the iletis in March 2004 and was prescribed Pentasa and prednisone.  Resection of terminal ileum (23 cm of small bowel) in January 2005 and was weaned off prednisone and began Azathioprine.  Several perianal fistulas and abscesses that have been a continuous battle.

Hello and welcome.

There are a lot of very knowledgeable people here. We are all very unique and our disease manifests itself in unique ways as you noted. But we support each other and offer our experience and advice to each other in all kinds of ways. It is wonderful to have new members join in the discussions.

Managing with strict low residue diet, keeping symptoms to a minimum. All test show small amount of ulceration, still have occasional blockages. But still have a great time with my 2 daughters and husband!

Welcome, Hawkeye!

It sounds as if you've had a horrible time. Abscesses are so hard to deal with, aren't they?

You can probably see some links in my signature line that you might appreciate reading. One has lots of our best threads on abscesses and fistulae; there's another one with some of our better threads about medications.

The medications one is quite out of date and I'm working on a newer one. If you can't find the information you need in the link, I suggest you go to Google and type:

Remicade "side effects" Crohn's

and read some of the links you're given. That should give you a start, at least, in finding the information you're wanting.

All the very best to you; I'm looking forward to getting to know you better.
