I'm not about to openly discuss this on some other forum and I know y'all have been there, done that. Surgery is tomorrow... I can barely hold down this prep. I chilled it, pour it over ice, held my nose, and am trying to drink quickly through a straw and I'm doing everything in my power to not throw it up. My gut is already hurting thanks to the darn disease and this isn't helping.

What do you do to get it down? Have you ever not been able to get it all down? My GI tells me to do it until I'm getting nothing but clear but the surgeon wants me to drink the entire bottle. Boo.

Which one are you doing? Preps are the worst... I can never keep them down but usually I manage to last long enough without throwing up that it starts to work at least (about an hour, haha). The only way I manage is actually by drinking it really slowly. I just take small sips of it with breaks in between. Honestly though, every time I do a prep, I throw up multiple times after about an hour (basically I know it has all came up), and I always still manage to be clear. Not sure if that's just me or not, I'm really tiny so maybe it's due to my size.

We all understand here. I hate that stuff. Only got through it last time because my toddler thought it was funny because I made a funny gasp after each swallow. She'd imitate it enough to distract me from the nastiness.

Good luck tomorrow (and tonight with the prep)! The prep I took the night before surgery (and my last colonoscopy) was Miralex with gatoride. Let us know how everything goes. SB

I am using go-lightly, which I am drinking after some citrate something. NASTY lemon flavored stuff. I'm getting mostly clear now so I'm giving up. I hope it's enough... since it's not a scope, i'm assuming they can work around it.

Thanks, all, for joining my party =)

Ugh, do I ever understand! I had an easier prep (Miralax), but I had pains all night because it was just too much liquid to squeeze through my stricture. There was actually some still backed up behind the stricture when I had surgery.

Good luck! You'll be feeling much better very soon :-).

Oh I feel for you so much, I get chills when i think about my last experience with the prep kit. My motivation was that I wanted to finish all the drink and do exactly what they instruct to get the clearest look possible so they can help me the best they can...its not much but it works every time for me :-)

Go- lightly is best served at room temp.

I once did a prep with that stuff and it was horrible but I manged once I started to drink it warm not chilled.

Next time I am having to do prep I am going to get a hose down my nose and just pour it in.

You poor thing. I just did the miralax/dulcolax prep on Monday. Had a colonoscopy on Tuesday. The prep is the worst part. Good luck!

p.s.- the miralax/dulcolax prep is the ONLY one I can do. The others make me vomit and do not even allow me to cleanse my bowels

Just reading your post almost made me gag thinking about it....I have the worst time taking the prep kit. One time it took me three hours to drink it and I still didn't drink all of it. I throw up and gag so much...I HATE it...The last time I had a colonoscopy i didn't drink it all but I guess I drank enough of it because they could see everything. Did you know that now for a colonoacopy they have pills for the prep kit...you take 32 pills with in two hours....Thats not so bad.....You just have to drink so much water while taking the pills.....good luck tomorrow...

I have only had to do a prep once but will say that the fleets was nasty gross gross stuff......

The only way I got it into me was by mixing it will frozen white grape juice concentrate. I thawed the can, mixed the fleets in and downed it as is.... Ginger-ale, ice and all the other suggestions just left me gagging... The grape juice concentrate was almost enough to mask the taste...

Good luck

If you have been on clear liquids for over 24 hours, you doc may let you off the hook. I think you should call and ask. I was on clear liquids for two days before the go-lytly crap and I always start vomiting when the chills begin. As long as I could assure the surgeon that I had clear liquids before, he didn't not want me to continue because the pain and vomiting could be worse for me. Don't worry about bothering the doc, the day before surgery, you need to ask as many questions as you wish. It's your life. Please call him/her.

Me too!! Even the big ol' vitamins and fish oils! :) My family is amazed...!
Dx'd w/ Crohn's in 1979 at age 14, have had minor flares throughout the years, but mostly kept in remission. Bad flare 2008 but no health insurance so I dealt with it. Colonoscopy in July 2009 caused a perforated colon, emergency bowel resection. Was on Pred. Dr. wants to try Humira...
Currently just take a multivitamin, calcium, magnesium, and fish oil.

Hang in there Aimee! If it's comin out clear, you should be ok. Before my 1st surgery my dr had me try to do the colyte (sp?) prep and I couldn't get it all down. Things "came out" clear, and surgery went well. If it was me, I'd just do what you can and don't worry about the rest. Can you drink liquids still? If you can, maybe you could drink some room temp sprite or ginger ale...those usually help me.

I hope surgery goes well for you! Hopefully all this crap (no pun intended) you're going through now will lead you to much better days ahead!

This is something that confuses me - I'm having surgery and I only need to do a liquid diet before, no prep (thank god). How come it varies so much?
