Dan I am 50 this year but emotionally I am about 8 so that rounds to about your age maybe? What you have said struck a note with me though as I am in the same boat. With this current flare I have been sitting on the pot in pain and crying. Part from pain but mostly from depression. Not always on the pot either when I choke back the tears. This is new to me.

So what do you want to talk about? I am in the USA.

Dan: I"m not your age, but I have three sons close to your age - so maybe I can be of support? It is hard to deal with Crohn's as it is so unpredictable when you should be planning your life and out doing with guys your age should be doing ... having fun, thinking of school or bumming around, dating gals. This is all hard to do if you are struggling to get off the toliet or don't have energy ....

Feel free to VENT and let us know how be of assistance. When were you diagnosed? How is your disease currently?

You are in our thoughts ...

Hi Dan,

My heart goes out to you, in fact to all of you living with Crohn's. My 'soon to be 17' year old son was recently diagnosed with Crohns so I am still on a steep learning curve here but everyone on this site has been so welcoming and supportive I am sure they will be able to give you invaluable advice and support.

Do not know how long you have been dignosed but would imagine that right at this moment you do not know quite which way to turn or where you go from here. My son wanted to be a Dr but consultant has (very nicely) suggested that it may be wiser for him to consider another profession which has left my son floundering and not quite knowing where his life is going to go from heresad

Incidently smile  I was up your neck of the woods in September when I 'deposited' my daughter at Uni-she loves Newcastle

You hang in there,

Hi Dan!
I too was diagnosed in your age. Now I'm 35, but I'm a "Dan" too, from Daniel.
As for the future... go for it! I had two surgeries and will likely have more, and I'm on Remi, so.. not a "mild" case.

But it had not stopped me to graduate in Computer Science, MBA, work in a global company (4 years), help in the church (helping people helps me!), and ever get a awesome public job (IT auditing). Happy marriage (12 years) and two lovely daughters. Just got an intenational certification in Information Security Auditing... and I keep telling my boss that I need to avoid stress :-)).

Life is out there! Grab it! Gogogogogo. And sometimes, take a time to heal, rest, relax and see your doc.

Brazilian sick fellow...
Diagnosed in nov/94 - Started with Prednisone, followed by Pentasa and Imuran
Blockage - First Surgery 2001 (no ressection)
Severe bleedind - 2003 - Stopped by 60mg of Prednisone
Stricture leading to a ressection in Dec/2008 - Second Surgery
Now on Remicade + 100 mg Imuran + Iron

Thank you very very much for being so understanding and helpful to everyone. Ill tell you a bit about myself. I was disagnosed with Crohns disease 7 year ago when i was 11. Was very ill when i was younger and been on alot of treatments but none seemed to keep me well for 2 minutes. Only treatment that did the job for me was Pred and the Elemental 028 diet for 8 weeks where i wasnt allowed to eat anything. Been on both treatments 3 times each. Had 2 surgeries, 2006 and 2008, both bowel ressections. Was doing well in 2008 untill my bowel ruptured suddenly and had to quit college and everything which was a big setback. Thankfully im well with the crohns side of things at the minute but i suffer with really bad anxiety, being on the toilet everytime i want to go out and be like a normal teenage lad is getting me a bit down. Current on 175mg of Azerthioprine and 40mg of fluoxotine (Anti-deppresants). Thanks again to everyone that replyed, made me feel alot better :) Dan
