My GI just upped my dose of Pred from 40 mg to 60 mg -  it's only been a couple days and I am a mess.  I am (while a normally generally even-keeled person sometimes :) have turned into a complete mess - I am alternating between fits of aggravated, pissed off, stressed out and annoyed to bouts of tears and crying.  I had to leave work early today because I couldn't get a handle on my emotions and was getting teary at the office.  This was also after 2 xanax and about 10 dropperfuls of Bach's Rescue Remedy.  And it's only been a few days!!!  How am I going to deal with this?!?

Please help.

hey wednesday, sorry to hear, but are you on any other drugs to go with the pred? I just started, well 3 wk's now pred.15mg and imuran 50mgx3. what made you go up in dosage? I was flareing in my throat and canker sores in my mouth. so the only thing to stop that was pred. and that was 60,60,60,40,40,10,10,10. and when i got down to the 10mg's or one pill aday, i new I would flare back, i could tell, I've had cd since 1970, never any drug's other than pain med's once in a while, I thought my stomach cd was mild, mind you I've always controled it thru diet, never varied that part, and now like you i was very depressed, all I could imagine was terrible side affects, moonface and all that stuff, my gi. sid i needed imuran and 20mg of pred. but I went to 15 instead, and I'm glad because so far that's all I've needed, but I still cn tell if I stopped right now the pred. my throat and mouth would flare up, I can feel it would, we know this stuff about our bodies and this disease, at least i sure do. sit tight and do your own testing, see how you feel slowy reuce it a bit, it's your body, that's what I do, what will happen/ you won't get arressted, you won't die, I'm going to let the imuran kick in a bit before reducing my pred. to 10mg. day to day, week to week. right now it sounds like you have to get control of inflammation then go from there

I've always irascible and generally an a**hole when I'm on more than 20mg of pred. Not sure of much that can help, especially if you're on that fixed amount of pred for the time being. A call to your doc might not be a bad idea. I'm sure s/he's had other patients who are having a difficult time coping with the side effects.

Taking prednisone is like turning into the Hulk. For the anger part, try listening to mellow music.

Thanks, I do switch to mellow music in my ipod.  I keep waking up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and now have night sweats again.   Can't wait to taper down from this, 60 mg is too high.  my dr wanted to put me in the hospital on IV steroids - no way would I be able to handle that at this point again.  It's one thing if I am deathly ill and already there but that is too much overload for my body.

Do they base the mg for Pred on your weight ot just symptoms?  For example, I am 5/2 and about 120 lbs.  Would they give the same dose to maybe a guy who is 200 lbs too?  Does that have any bearing on the situation?

Oooh I am so sorry you are suffering so. I never allow my doc to put me on more than 30 mg at the most with Pred. Otherwise, I get just like you. Maybe you can ask him for something to help you sleep. Maybe getting more rest will help some. Good luck!

Hmm, must be symptoms. I'm that guy but the max I've ever been on is 40 mg/day.

I think they do (or at least SHOULD) take your weight into account, because that just makes sense. I am on Imuran right now and i know my dr said that doesn't have much to do with your weight; it's how fast your liver metabolizes the drug or something...but I think pred is different for some reason. I'm pretty small (5'6, 113 lbs) and I'm on 25mg of pred right now and I think that for me, that's a pretty big dose...I've heard bigger guys tell me that they have been on like 60mg or higher and it's not as bad because they're bigger.

I am on Prednisone right now, 20mg about to taper off and get off of it completly. It makes me crazy, I can't imagaine how you must feel with that high og a dosage. Personally they gave me Ativan to take in the evening/before bed to help me sleep and calm me down. During the day I just ride an emotional rollercoaster. I am NOT nice, though. I have to put in effort in almost all personal interactions to keep from biting people's heads off. Good luck!

I do really like the incredible hulk association, I once broke the glass (without trying) in my hand on 160 of sodium medrol.
