before my main surgery, i was terrbly constipated, cd is like that, because intestine's are inflammed and swollen so it's natural to have constipation, now that being said, I've had 4 surgeries, 2 resections. so i have loose bm's and i can go up 2-4 times in the morning, but I've also discovered that I do the best if I do that, and get rid of bile from the night before.

Talk to your doc about constipation. Sometimes eating more fiber before you get regulated makes constipation worse. Most of us stick with low-residue food and avoid any fresh veggies and fruit. Seeds, skins and stringy veggies, too. My brother hasn't been sick a day in his life, but he called me last year because he was unable to go for a week. He thought, I'll call sis, she must know about this. Well, he had been attempting to alleviate his constipation by eating bran muffins, granola, salads and taking bulk-forming powders. He had to go to the hosp. to avoid tearing the area just above the rectum. His Navy doctor read him the riot act and told him to stick to soluble fibers. Your GI has heard everything and can explain more. I feel for you. Good luck!

I am a crohnie who suffers with constipation vs diarrhea. I do have the scarring/stricturing type of Crohns and fiber is not good for me at all. I take stool softeners nightly in order to keep things softner and easier to pass. Another suggestion to help with this is Miralax, I haven't tried it, but others on the forum have and some have had good luck with it. Good luck!

I drink heaps of water and have metamucil, it doesn't really help the hardness effect of my stools. It may make me go more frequently but they still seem to be hard and dry..

You should try the stool softners, they help me so much. They are not laxatives, but just help to draw the water to the stools to make them softer and easier to pass. Good luck!
