I was given a week-long prescription of doxycycline by my dermatologist for folliculitis. As usual, I did a quick google search of the medicine and found some surprising information about incidences of first-time depression diagnosis while on doxycycline--even for short periods.

While I have not had issues with depression, it does run in my family. I am also finishing up my last quarter of college and am under the most stress I have ever been under. Overall, the combination worries me.

Has anyone had experience with this antibiotic? Is this a legitimate concern or just a magnified side effect?

Thanks!

One more thing--I was also prescribed Duac for the folliculitis, but all the info says those with intestinal inflammation or colitis should not take this medicine. I'm very confused, as my dermatologist is supposed to be an expert on Crohn's and skin issues. Have others taken Duac? Thanks!!
