So, I did go to the ER. I just couldn't breath and the chest pain was too much - and if I had pneumonia, I knew it would send my CD into a spiral, putting my job in jeapordy.
Instead of getting the chest Xray first, I decided to consult with the ER doc for a second opinion. He called my regular doc on call and they said with all I have going on, I really need to be seen by him and not another generalist. Makes sense as before I was hospitalized, my ex-GP just kept sending me to the ER and I got no where. Much appreciated.
Anyway, he said that it was unlikely asthma related as I was on 45mg of prednisone and this would be the treament for an asthma flare.
As for pneumona, it is possible it could the start, but my temp has gone away by the evening although my blood pressure was still elevated. He said it would be more prudent to wait and see than to try anything invasive - I didn't look that sick although I was coughing a lot and was uncomfortable.
I mentioned that my symptoms worsened right after I ate. Strange I commented. He said that was classic Gastric Relfux - a side effect of Prednisone - as the acid spills into the lungs causing inflammation and the symtoms I was experiencing.
So, I went out and bought generic Prilosec and my symptoms have dramatically decreased. So, hopefully with my GI docs approval, I'll still be able to go down another 5gm of my prednisone this week.
I hate prednisone. No, I love it ... no I hate it!! Which is it???
Thanks for your patience ... wow, what a journey this disease is, isn't it?
