So apparently the other night I had such bad breath that it stunk up the entire bedroom for the whole night.  My friend confirmed it the next morning that I did in fact have really bad breath!  This is not typical for me, so I was wondering if anyone has any ideas?  I brush my teeth usually morning and night, and scrape my tongue at least once a day.  :)

Maybe its one of your meds or the disease itself??? Not sure really, thats a new one to me. Good luck!

unfortunately halitosis can be a side effect of crohns, especially if you have upper GI issues like heartburn.  Or if you are on some sulfer meds.

I get my teeth (professionally) cleaned every two months.  I carry wisps and a small listerine bottle with me.

The other thing that can cause really nasty bad breath is sinus issues. Have you had any sign of a sinus infection (coughing or runny nose)?

I havent really experienced this but have another issue... When I wake up I sometimes have a gel like film in parts of my mouth that I can actually remove and see on my finger... Normally I have a bad taste in my mouth (but thats usual in the am anyway) . Any clues to what that is? I find it pretty gross

I do the normal morning/nighttime brush and rinse but it just seems to come and go

dt19&99,

Never heard of that, but I might wonder if you are having reflux at night and this is some stomach contents that are ending up back in your mouth when you are not awake to swallow them back down or brush them away. If so, I wonder if raising the head of your bed a little bit might help (to reduce reflux) and maybe also antacids?

I suppose that could be it... tried the google machine and webmd but couldnt quite find my symptoms... I had pizza tonight w/jalapenos so we'll see whats up in the morning; if its there I'll try the antacids before bed

Oddly my son used to have horrible breath when in a bad flair. One day I gave him a pro-biotic caplet to chew up and after chewing the caplet his horrid breath turned normal, almost slightly sweet smelling. The good bacteria must have had their way with the ones causing the stink.

After my bowel resection March 09 I had awful breath. My Gastero MD said many times after surgery the flora and fauna of the body get upset and the wrong kind of bacteria are overabundant in the body. He proscribed Flagyl which is used very succesfully for many intestinals disorders. Witin three days the bad breath was gone.
Hope this helps.
