The past few days my belly has been bloated and hard. It's tender and I look about 3-4 months pregnant. I'm not overly worried about it but I can't stand the feeling and I just got to wondering, what causes the bloating and hard belly? Yesterday I started to cut back severely on solid food. I'm not doing a full liquid diet, but pretty close. Same today - milk for breakfast, chicken soup for lunch (creamed). I just don't understand why it happens. I am not passing gas in or out of the bathroom...

Also, for the past few days I've been having terrible heartburn. It's happened a couple times in the past but it's worse this time. I guess maybe my Crohn's is adding an attack location? fun... going to get an OTC for the heartburn today.

Thanks!

Many folks with Crohns also suffer with Acid Reflux/GERD. I have to take Prilosec daily for mine. You should maybe talk to your doc about possibly having a bacterial overgrowth. I get really bloated with that. Good luck!

Thanks, Nanners... Maybe I need to be better about my probiotics. I admit that I get so tired of swallowing pills of every sort that I just let that one slide. Maybe it will help...

Are you constipated? It makes me a lot more bloated when I am.

not really... i've been taking the stool softeners to counter balance the pain meds. I've had regular output. But I was slow for a couple of days a bit back, maybe it's lingering from that...

Along with the probiotics, I'd suggest you try to drink as much water as you can. It's supposed to help a lot with bloating. Then again, I'm not the best example because I get terrible bloating and I'm too lazy to do anything about it, haha. I hope you find something that works for you though!

Time to start tracking your weight everyday. Increasing weight for 2 or 3 days is a great sign your systems slowing down. When mine slows down I get the swollen abdomen which is a real danger sign that if I continue to eat solid or soft food I'll be in severe pain. Usually with the weight gain I have less or no bm's. Put the 3 together weight going up, bm's slow or stopped and a swollen tight abdomen equals a partial or total obstruction.

Thanks Grandpato2... I actually did notice I gained about 3 pounds over just a few days. I took additional stool softeners yesterday and, like I said, switched to almost entirely liquid diet. This will motivate me to go to a straight liquid diet until it gets settled... It's tender where the belly is hard... Most of my Crohn's involvement is in the large intestine, so I never figured I was very likely to obstruct. Is that true? Or, a false assumption? Besides, I know it can move and attack anywhere it pleases regardless of what it's done in the past. And, i've been feeling it in different places, so maybe... Ugh. It's so frustrating for it to always be something.

Oh yeah - my temps the past few days have been over 100 also. Before the bloating and such started my temps stayed normal. Maybe I'll do a week taper of steroids to be safe... (my doc is ok with that)

Which area is your belly hard in? My tender hard spot is where I obstruct. It's quite rare to obstruct in your large intestine, but it's possible that you may have some inflammation going on in your ileum or somewhere else if you say that you feel your pain in different places now. The temperature thing makes me think that you likely have quite a bit of active inflammation going on.

It's tender all over, but, aside from the rectal area, which hurts all the time it's maybe above the belly button area? Yes, I do have very active disease/inflammation. My sed rate is 78 :-(

I was having something very similar and found that I was obstructing. Stool softners work well but I found that fiber one bars really worked the best. You will pass a ton of gas for a day when you eat one but you will also start passing all of the impacted fecal matter. If you are not passing any gas at all I would contact you doctor ASAP to make sure that you are not full obstructed and need medical help. I have had many obstructions but only one that need hospitalization and it was terrible. The pain and pressure from the bloating was immense and when we were able to break the obstruction up at the hospital the relief was huge.

vetrin member. Ive had crohns for 31 years. When i first got it bloating was always a problem. Through that whole time what has helped me is smaller meals, eating slower so you dont get so much air everytime you take a bit. Also milk can really bloat you if you eat to much of a full liquid diet. And of course and thing with fat , fried foods etc. will increase this. But I so have to say I really dont have a problem with constipation its the opposite so I tried probiotics. I belive in my situtution it inflamed my intestines I dont have alot left so I think it just sat there and I stopped taking it for fear of a blockage. Been there before. But thats just me. I do know probiotics are good for your digestive track. As with anything check with your doctor.

Hope this helps.
