It was suggested that I post my question on this forum even though I have RA since you all may have more experience with this medication. My doc wants me to start orencia for my rheumatoid arthritis. The infusion nurse told me that it will "kill my immune system". Now I am afraid to start on it. Does anyone have any long-term experience?

Thanks

I generally do not use wikipedia, but I have not heard of using orencia in crohns looks like it might be used in uc, but please think about talking to a pharmicist and your doc about it.

I have never heard of this drug, it must be quite new in Crohn's treatment because I googled it and the study for Crohn's patients was only done in 2007, so I doubt that many people are using it. I've never heard it mentioned on here, and it would be even less likely that anyone would have any long term experience since it's so new, unfortunately. Since RA is an autoimmune disease, pretty much any drugs you'll go on will kill your immune system. You should be sure to get vaccinated for anything that you need and just try to take more care of handwashing and stuff like that. You should also get tested to make sure that you don't have TB. From what I am seeing googling it, it doesn't look to be any more dangerous than any of the other medications used to treat a similar severity. Sorry if this isn't personal experience, but I tried! lol. Good luck :)
