So annoyed! I had applied for HIPU (health insurance pool that gives regularly priced premiums to people who have chronic conditions) anyways I received my letter today saying that I was denied because I'm eligible and currently covered under a group plan! I have a very horrible plan through my employer (20,000 max, and only 2,000 can be used for drs visits, lab work, tests, 600 for er visits, and 75 for prescriptions) anyways, it's not enough to cover my expenses. I had spoken with a health insurance agent and he said that because that plan isn't enough to cover me I shouldn't have a problem with getting the HIPU. I can't just drop the work insurance either because i'm still eligible for it and won't be approved for the HIPU. So basically I have to quit work in order for me to get insurance that will cover me. I'm annoyed! I was planning on quitting in a few months so i could focus on getting back to health, but now, erggg....

sgirl,
I know that you have talked about this situation on another thread and inquired about disability but are you still able to work if you can get a job with benefits? We are in the same state and the company that my wife works for is frequently hiring and offers a couple different options for really good insurance. They offer Aetna, bluecross and IHC select med. The nice thing about it is that they do not care about covering pre existing conditions and when I switched to her insurance from mine when I had to go on disability they were incredible about the switch. We chose the little more expensive one in IHC and it has been nice how much better they have worked with us and helped us with an account for copays that is at 0%.
If you are able to work fulltime for a while, there are companies like the one the my wife works for that does offer benefits for partime workers. There are also companies that have programs to help with copays for medications like remicade and cimzia. When I was on Cimzia I never had to pay a penny but when I switched back to Remicade I had to pay a copay but am getting reimbursed for a large percentage of it. There are options if you can work.
