I have a 3 - 4 inch incisional hernia from my resection surgery in 2006. My GI said I should get it fixed when it began to"bug me". It does bug me and is painful sometimes, but not bad enough for me to want another surgery. My question is... do all hernias need to be repaired at some poin? My husband may be laid off in December so I need to decide what to do.  If I go to a surgeon of course he will say it's necessary. Any thoughts????

Thanks,
Elizabeth

I have the same.....and I have been told the same as well..don't need surgery until it starts to 'bug' me or gets uncomfortable.
Well some days it sticks out so much it is uncomfortable and I cant wear button up trousers or jeans , or end up undoing my trousers! I'm also not sure if this causes problems with the crohns sometimes too, as if I am having a bad day on the toilet, it seems to stick out more as well. But when I have been to the doctors and they have felt my stomach when I've been flaring nothing has been said about the hernia!
So when do you get it fixed!!!??? Good question!

Hi, I personally haven't had a hernia but my close friend has, she was given a support belt to wear which holds it in and makes it less uncomfortable. Her hernia is the size of a grapefruit, hope this helps abit . Bev x
