If you can, you might like to turn on the 7.30 report right now.

Treatment of chronic pain in Aus is shockingly inadequate - quite validating for us, imo.

Good to see some Aussies here! May I ask which state/city you are in?

Do you know of any non-web support networks for Crohn's.. I considered joining something like this to try and share experiences, but to be honest I'm not sure I would go through with it.
- 36yo male. DX in 1990 at 16yo. First re-section in 1990, lost most of small bowel - Anastimosis leaked after surgery, resulting in 2nd surgery which ended with illeostomy for 3 months.
- Managed well on Mesasal for 20 years. Only CD symptoms are abdo pain from bad eating and flare-ups once every couple/few months.
- Second hospitalisation Feb 2010, due to bowel performation. Had another re-section, and abdo lavage. Some minor complications including leaking which required (now) two drains, antibiotics and extended hospitalisation.

It can be helpful. When I was going thru severe thyroid problems, I turned to people online in my area and then we started meeting every month. We didn't do much except talk, exchange information/doctors, and eat, but it was nice to know I wasn't alone and that it affects all ages/people from every walk of life.

Hypothyroid, newly dx'd Crohn's, Gerd. I love to look for natural ways to heal first, conventional ways second and keep my faith.

Here you are; I think this will be your best option for finding non-web support:

http://www.crohnsandcolitis.com.au/

You will get a regular magazine if you join, and access to help & advice via telephone, and they also run symposia (or is it ums?) and are organising support groups in various metro and regional areas.

Hope this helps,

Ivy
