do you have to have liver biopsies while on MTX?

Im still new to MTX obviously, but still looking at all the type of things associated.

I could be wrong but I swear I heard that you're supposed to have a biopsy every 10,000mg.......I think that works out at like 7 years so having said that actually I think I could be wrong but I swear its after a certain amount of mg - if I didn't have a lecture to head off to I'd do a quick google! I've been on it 8 years though and haven't had one, blood and urine tests and check ups always perfect (touch wood!) I think it only gets done if really needed as its invasive.

I had a search and the advice seems to vary between 1.5 - 3g (I was wayyy off lol) to after 5 years of treatment, I guess it depends on how the bloodtesting goes and if the doctor thinks its necessary.

I have my liver function tested monthly ...simple blood test ...hope this helps..lyn

My doc didn't say anything about it. I sure hope not!!! I feel like I read that they used to do that, but I could be wrong. I do know I get blood work every 4 weeks.
1 fistula, crohn's colitis, limited to large intestine
