Ladies,

I have a question.  I am 21 weeks pregnant with my first :-) .  I am currently on Humira every 2 weeks.  I have been feeling pretty good but there is quite a bit of blood in BM's.  The Crohn's has always caused me to be amenic and in a recent blood test my hemoglobin was down to 82 shakehead   My OB is concerned and has upped the iron supplement I am on.  I have an appointment with my GI next week and am pretty sure he is going to suggest that I go on some prednisone to get the blood under control so hopefully my hemoglobin will come up a bit.  Have any of you ladies been on prednisone while pregnant?  I am just looking for some reassurance that healthy babies can be born to moms on Prednisone.  Also, have any of you experienced the problems with anemia while pregnant and if so, how did you manage to get your levels up?  I am also worried that if my levels don't come up enough my OB and GI will want to do another iron infusion or blood transfusion and I am not sure if this is something I want to do while pregnant.

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much!

I had 3 girls and with each was very sick. The first one I was hospitalized for dehydration from vomiting so much (lost 15 lbs) I was never put on steroids until my 3rd child at age 37. OB and GI wanted me off all meds for the health of the baby. At my 20th week- started bleeding profusely. I was having a miscarriage (which I was told is common with woman with crohns) I called specialists and Director of GI medicine at University of Virginia Hospital. They told me to come in ASAP- my husband got me there in 1 1/2 hrs. They had a private room ready for me with a pediatric specialist, the attending that I had been seeing as well as the Director overseeing the program.

They stated me on 200mg of flagl (yes I know that is alot) They tapered me down each week it took 6 weeks and while in the hospital there-THEY GAVE ME REMECAID. UVA suggested I kept my now 6-year stem cells and cord blood. This will ensure if my daughter, her sisters as well as my husband and I come down with any cancers (+200- listed)

We have it bc she was exposed to remecaid in utero an and at the directions of the Doctors' at UVA as I was one of 200 people that have dea=== in charity. It is our very important life insurance for our family.

In answer to your questions I was on HIGH doses of prednisone. It saved my daughters life- and she looks more like than ... If you have more questions just post and i will respond
