Do many of you out there also suffer with GERD ? What meds do you take for it that you think are ok? I know many people feel the PPI's will allow bad bacteria to thrive in your system, but what can you do if that's all that works? I take probiotics. The antidepressants that I take also seem to play into this whole thing too. I can't seem to find one that gives me energy, doesn't give me diarrhea or constipation or worsen the GERD.Zoloft game me GERD and diarrhea. I switched to wellbutrin and the GERD is a little better but I'm not much better, the diarrhea went away though. Any suggestions here? I feel screwed and frustrated right now. I am also thinking that my blood pressure medicine is playing a part in all this too. My pharmacist said it could cause some GI symptoms. Double sigh....... I swear I am so tired of going to the doc and asking for a medication switch. I know they are tired of me doing this too. I can't seem to get the right combination. Part of me wants to join a gym and lose some weight and I could probably drop the BP meds but my energy is down and so is the motivation. I woke up feeling like crap this morning with some stomach cramps. I took 1/2 a loritab. I hate this!!!!! Any advice? Thanks!!!

Many of us suffer with Acid Reflux/GERD along with our Crohns. I take Prilosec and it works well for me. My guts would be constant toil and turmoil if I didn't take them. I take Probiotics too, but because of the changes since my surgeries I really need them to have a better of quality of life. Good luck, you are not alone. Hugs~

I take generic Prilosec twice a day, and I still get heartburn. Tums = one of my best friends.

Have you talked to a doctor about the effect PPIs will have? Or is that just information you've picked up through research?
Diagnosed with Crohn's in 2008 at the age of 22.
Currently on: Remicade, Imuran, Pentasa, Zofran, Tramadol, Welchol, Phenergan, Ambien, Metoclopramide, Omeprazole, Hyoscyamine

Yes, peer reviewed journals have reported increased fractures, C diff infections, hospital acquired pneumonia. People also have problems with rebound reflux when they stop the PPI's. But, having reflux is not a good thing either. I think it is somehow related to my other stomach problems. It seems when one end is acting up, so is the other. LOL.... Also, Nexium has diarrhea and stomach cramps listed as side effects. I have heard others say it causes them problems. I need to switch meds or find something herbal that helps.

I've been taking Pantaloc for years. If I try to stop I really feel it. I have a hiatus hernia and have looked into surgery but decided the results might just be worse than the cure in this case so as long as I can control things with medication I'll go with that.
