Oh Roni that does not sound like fun. How long has this been going on? Are you getting dehydrated??

Oh no!  Do you definitely have a stomach flu?

The first time I got sick with a Crohn's flare it was partially brough on by a stomach flu - the only advice I have is to rest and sleep as much as you can - drink as much liquid as your body can handle.  Take little sips as often as you can and try and drink water, tea and maybe coconut water if you can get it - I have read that it replenishes the electrolytes in your body better than anything else.

Staying hydrated is the most important thing, hopefully this is just a 24 hour bug that will pass quickly!  Sorry you are going through this!

My hubby got the stomach flu last month. It hit him really pretty hard. I had to take him to the ER to get him hydrated again, in no time at all, he was dehydrated. So yes, as wednesday said, drink fluids to stay hydrated. I suggest pedialyte. This is the only thing my hubby could tolerate. Call your doc and ask for an anti-nausea med - this will help you keep the fluids down and stay hydrated, and will also make you more willing to drink some fluids.

My husband needed the anti-nausea med (zofran, I think it was) to be able to even drink the pedialyte. It took him about 3 days to get to the point where he was willing to try ensure. So basically he survived 3 days eating nothing, just drinking pedialyte and some broth. And it took him about 2 weeks to get back to a normal diet for him.

From what I saw with my hubby, the stomach flu certainly hits people with crohn's harder than normal people. Remember, staying hydrated is the key. If you feel you're not able to stay hydrated, off you go to the ER, so that they can get you re-hydrated so you can ride this out.

Hang in there!

I'm so sorry you're feeling so bad. Almost every time I get the stomach bugs I end up in the ER. Not only from needing fluids, but I just can't tolerate the gut pain. I will throw up over and over, even though there is nothing left. I always need tons of anti-vomitting meds. It's the worse. My son had it a few weeks ago, and I did everything to not catch it. Thankfully I didn't, but I know since getting Crohn's it's much worse on me.

Get well soon!

I JUST went through this same thing, getting out of ER this morning for the dehydration. 3 days straight of vomitting including water, NOTHING stayed down and I hit my ends since 3 days without water even is pretty bad. I couldn't even keep Gravol down to calm the flu. The ER doc said of course if that happens to take it in suppository form, then obviously it can help without the throwing (granted the diarrhea doesn't doesn't kick it out first either though). Best from what I was told--try and wait a few hours, sip water, see what happens. If it stays down take more sips and keep going, work slow. Worse comes to worse yeah, a few of us have ended up in ER as you can see. My body got so dehydrated my legs and arms were twisting and cramping up in pure pain. One bag of I.V fluid and the pain was all gone again thankfully. Hopefully it gets better for you two!

Thanks e1.
It is definitely some type of norovirus. Gosh, I am vomiting up acid and my throat was killing last night. I have totally liquid "d" almost every hour.
I've been taking small sips of water and apple juice regularly. I'm still urinating once in a while, so I guess I'm not dehydrated...?
I ate half a serving of applesauce today. That's it. I'm taking pepto and tylenol now.
This seriously sucks. Can't believe I have this. Don't we suffer enough?

Hi Roni. Sorry you're still dealing with the stomach flu. My husband had the same kind of symptoms - lots of nausea, and very watery diarrhea. I'm not sure about the pepto, my husband's GI basically said D is the body's way of flushing out the toxins and the virus, and that as the the body recovers, the D will stop. In the meantime, he just gave my husband zofran so he can stop feeling so nauseous and at least keep fluids down.

Anyway, I hope you start feeling better soon. As I said, it took my hubby a good 3 days to start feeling better, and get even a semblance of an appetite back. It took him about a week to get back to formed stool. My GI said if he's not showing slow improvement day by day to call and he'd do further testing. And that's about how it was for my husband - every day was an improvement compared to the one before.

Hang in there!

Hey Roni,

I don't think the apple juice is such a good idea right now, you are probably better sipping either Pedialyte or Gatorade. My doc told me when I get like that to make sure I am sipping one or the other every five minutes. If you feel as if you are getting dehydrated, go to the ER. The IV fluids will help alot. Hugs and I hope you get feeling better soon. I was sick with the stomach flu about a month ago so I understand how you are feeling. Don't know whether to sit or kneel.

Hugs

Tried pedialyte, not happening. Last night, I mixed water with a bit of sea salt and probiotics and drank that but it was hard to get down.
I'm feeling much less nausea now and actually having intermittent cravings for chinese food...? weird.
Still not able to eat much at all. I had 1 piece of toast this morning, but I am a little drinking more.
I had half glass water mixed with gingerale and 1 decaf. green tea.

The only good think about norovirus is that it eventually runs its course -- 12-36 hours usually. Unfortunately it is so easily transmitted and highly contagious that everyone within two time zones is liable to catch it.

Gotta say I feel disappointed that I caught this. I thought regularly taking strong probiotics was supposed to help protect against this stuff.
I'm presently taking Primal Defense, maybe I should switch?

Well I'm feeling better today. Just a little nausea, about what I normally get anyway. I actually ate my first meal today in three days and I'm drinking more. I feel a little extra tired though.

Thanks for the support e1!
