Hey guys. Happy Holiday to all. So last night I took some Pepto Bismol (1st time ever) cause I was a bit nauseus and bloated all day and I had to go somewhere last night. I read online how it helps some people with their IBD.
I know it can cause black stool in some people but I only took like 2 tablespoons of it (1 dose).
This morning I had a BM and the end portion of it was black and kind of shiny. It was like just black stool embedded and mixed with the normal stool towards the last half of it. I freaked out and then remembered I had Pepto Bismol, but I'm second guessing myself cause I only had about 1 dose. Any expreirences with this?
   Thanks.

I've had a similar experience. I was on vacation and got a bad stomach flu with nausea, fever and bad diarrhea, and I took some pepto because I had to travel that day! It was horrid. I remember the poop I had after that being very dark gray in color, and me freaking out about it. My hubby looked it up and said that the pepto can cause that, and in a day or so, it returned to the normal color.

Here's what the pepto site has to say:
The active ingredient in Pepto-Bismol contains bi****h. When a small amount of bi****h combines with trace amounts of sulfur in your saliva and gastrointestinal tract, a black-colored substance (bi****h sulfide) is formed. This discoloration is temporary and harmless. It can last several days after you stop taking Pepto-Bismol. Individual bowel habits, your age (the intestinal tract slows down with age), and the amount of the product taken all help to determine how long Pepto-Bismol is in your system.

If it still persists after you think it should be cleared from your system, see a doc right away. Also, do you have any other bad symptoms other than the black stool?

Thanks guys. I'm not really having any other symptoms. I was feeling fine until I saw that BM, and now I am having anxiety symptoms. I guess I'll just monitor it for another day. If it gets worse luckily I have the day off tomorrow, I'll run to my GI and scream HELP!!!!!!

the four letters it was spelling was blocked...don't think the profanity filter likes that word...even if it was embedded in another word...
