hi there everyone,i'm new to this forum although i do read up on things here but this is my first post.
I was diagnosed with cd 17yrs ago and generally i've been ok,i suffer with cronic d and i've only had one op that was at 17.
As i've got older i've noticed its getting worse, and recently i've been having some probs.

I've been having alot of hems recently really painfull ones that wont go away, and this last week i have been getting more cramps, feeling sick, loss of appitite and generally feeling knackerd and very down with the constant pain in the bottom area.

I have an appointment at the hospital in two weeks as the hems are pretty much destroying my life and wanna see if anything can be done, but  as i've been reading about flare ups i'm wondering if i may be going through one although i know everone has different symptoms??

I do have pentasa to take but i've never took it prop as i feel it doesn't help really?

any thoughts people would help

thanks

How long has it been since you have done a pill camera? if you have ever done one?
How about a scope?
I would think if you are feeling worse it is time to really get checked out.
Pentasa is a decent mainteince med, but if does not work for you then it might be time to change meds.

i've never had a pill cam and haven't had any proper checks for years.
I did have my bloods done about 3 months ago and they were fine.

Should i request something?

Hello Ant34,

I am sorry you are feeling so poorly. This disease can really drag you down! I am glad you are seeing a doctor soon -- but I am wondering if you can see the doctor sooner than two weeks. It maybe that inflammation is the real culprit and a medication (possibly a steriod) can calm that down.  I suggets you call and ask if you can come in soon.  They may have a cancellation and it doesn't hurt to ask!

Take care!

Diagnosed with Crohn's in early 2007.  Several peri-rectal abscesses and two fistulae with setons.  Allergic to Remicade and Humira.  Currently on 6MP, and vitamins D and B-12.

First I would suggest getting and seeing a GI doctor.  I would also recommend getting a scope done as you may have something going on.

With that said, I would use the meds the emergency doctor gave you but also go see the GI.  Don't worry about what you might get from the meds as you need to treat the immediate issue.  Also if you don't need the pain meds, don't take them.

I think a lot of people will have advice for you on here, but we are not doctors.  It sounds like you are how I used to be....ignoring the disease.  Bad thing about this is that when it comes back, it comes with a vengence.  For now get yourself a GI and listen to him/her.  Then let us know how you are doing.

Take care, feel better and keep us informed on how your doing.

I also want to add that you really need to make sure those are hemi's and not skin tags that many Crohnies have. You don't want surgery on skin tags that are inflamed as that can make things worse. And you definetly need to be on maintainence meds at all times. I take the sister med to Pentasa called Asacol. Alot of people think these meds aren't doing anything and quit taking them, and then end up flaring within time. If you don't think the Pentasa was working you might ask about either 6mp or Imuran. Many on this forum have had success with these meds for many years. But you should be on meds all the time as you need to remember that Crohns is a chronic and incurable bowel disease. Hugs!
