Hi Guys

I have had Crohn's Disease for about 15 years and I was diagnosed just before I was 12. I didn't really get on that well with drugs and the only thing that worked for me was high dose prednisone. I have been on virtually all the drugs out there and they didn't really make me well at all. After several years of beating my head against the wall trying western medicine I looked to alternative methods to see what I could find there, for a long time I had no luck with this either and just through not giving up and keeping going I was able to find some things that work well and I was able to get off all my medication when my doctor said I would be on medication for the rest of my life. I have been off all medication now for about 4 years and I have never been better.

I have also had two bowel resections, one when I was 14 and the other when I was about 21. I hope to be able to contribute to this forum and maybe help someone out in some way.

nice to hear andrew, I've had cd for 40 years, 1st when I was 20 and I was a pro horse jockey, that time i was ill (quite I'll) for a year, after 9 months they went in and removed 8ft of infected small bowel, total remission for 7 years no meds, then it just came back, but not that bad, then it was just on and off, gas blockages that would last 2-6 hrs then sore for a day, then I seriously broke my jaw, twice in a 12 week period. surgery both times, on the second jaw suergery my stomach got so bad that when they took wireds off my mouth they did another resection, then total remission for 7 years, now it's back and I'm on state disability and have applied for ssdi, I'm 59. my point andrew is don't ever forget you have cd, because it will one day remind you. I'm on med's now. but after my surgeries glorious remission, like I never had it. nice to meet you, take care

Hi Andy, and welcome to the boards!
Dx'd w/ Crohn's in 1979 at age 14. Bad flare 2008 but no health insurance so I dealt with it. Colonoscopy in July 2009 caused a perforated colon, emergency bowel resection. 2 fistula's, perianal and perivaginal.
Dr. wants to try Humira...STILL waiting on that! Not sure what is taking so long...
Currently just take a probiotic, a multivitamin, calcium, magnesium, and fish oil. I also take Tramadol 50 mg and Klonopin (for anxiety) as needed.

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance!

hi to Andy,
Welcome aboard, hope we can all share our experiences and help each other out.
I have a question that folk may be able to comment on. Apart from when you are having a flare, does anyone have insomnia, and is it a specific symptom of CD?

Well not specific it is not unheard of, nor is having to sleep all the time. This is such an individual disease.
