Saw my GYN a few weeks ago and during a routine urinalysis he found protein in my urine. I followed up with my GI whoc ordered kidney and liver tests. He also checked my B12 and Vitamin D3. Thankfully everything came out ok. He said my creatine and filtration levels were normal and shockingly enough my B12 and Vitamin D levels were good too. I am still following up with my General practice dr to get some more test run but overall he was happy with the results which makes me feel so much better. He thinks it could have been that I was dehydrated so now I am drinking at least 8-10 glasses of fluid a day. Just wanted to give an update as I had some very nice people respond to me when I was first told and was freaking out!

It sounds like your doctors are doing everything right. It was great news that your creatine and other tests came back normal. I too will test positive for protein in my urine when I am dehydrated. I hope it is something as simple as that. Keep us updated.

Thank you irishmom! I consider it a blessing that I found such a good dr with a great staff. He coordinates everything with my GP dr and tells me to call them anytime I have questions or concerns. He is great and he has an awesome PA too. I wish every doctor had his bedside manner. it really helped that my nurse practitioner with my GP has a husband with Crohns so she is super sensitive about it and made sure I got in with a good doctor.

I forgot to tell you ..... that my daughter had protein in her urine for several office visits and they were ready to do a kidney biopsy. she decided to cut down on her protein intake, she was drinking massive amounts of milk, and the next time she went back she tested normal. I thought is was really odd but at least she didn't have to have the biopsy.

Keep us updated

That is really odd about the milk. I don't drink massive amounts and I am not a huge meat eater so I don't know if that can be the culprit. Of course there is protein in a lot of other stuff so who knows? I have a friend at work who told me her daughter was constantly having protein in her urine and they never figured out why and her kidneys were always fine. My sister who is a nurse practitioner tried to tell me to not worry but it was hard. She has forbid me to use the internet for any research.. she insists I call the dr if I have a question. she says the internet will just convince you that you are dying!!smile

Well I saw my doctor today and they did a urinalysis and there was no protein!!!! yeah!!!! I made sure I was hydrated before going. So with the tests results coming back normal and the no protein in the urine today they were confident my kidneys were fine. I follow up in on month to do a repeat urinalysis and routine blood work for blood sugar and cholesterol. Thank you to everyone for your input and thoughts. This forum really does help keep me sane. And I hearby promise to STOP researching every little thing on the internet!!!smilewinkgrin
