Hey all. I have struggled with a fecal smell for years now...Every since I had my fistulotomy years ago. I could never tell if it was gas escaping, or maybe a little bit of draining still there after all these years. Regardless, it has given me terrible anxiety and I keep the area very clean.

I just saw Artist Guy post that he eats fresh papayas a lot and it causes the gas and stool to have no odor? I'm wondering if I should give this a shot. Can anybody else confirm this? I have never heard of this before but I'm ready to go out and buy Papayas right now!! :-) Any other remedies anybody has would be helpful too. I actually researched this problem a long time ago and there are thousands of people with the "smelling" problem. Fortunately for us; Chronies have a general understanding of where it comes from.

To add; I use preparation H wipes with Witch Hazel in them. Witch Hazel is supposed to be good for the bum, and anything that can help keep it clean and sterile downstairs is fine by me!!! :-) If I go out in public, I've been known to use spray deodorant in the area as well as I sweat a lot from anxiety in that general region.

Okay, thanks!!! Are these standard papayas I could find at a regular grocer; or does it take a little extra hunting?

He uses the papaya like a digestive enzyme. So if you didn't tolerate the Papaya maybe a good digestive enzyme would help. Good luck!

Does anybody eat Papaya who can't tolerate fruit?

I would like to try it buy I'm afraid the consequences may be worse than the benefits...
Dx'd w/ Crohn's in 1979 at age 14. Bad flare 2008 but no health insurance so I dealt with it. Colonoscopy in July 2009 caused a perforated colon, emergency bowel resection. 2 fistula's, perianal and perivaginal.
Dr. wants to try Humira...STILL waiting on that! Not sure what is taking so long...
Currently just take a probiotic, a multivitamin, calcium, magnesium, and fish oil. I also take Tramadol 50 mg and Klonopin (for anxiety) as needed.

GEB,
I use a papaya juice (with no additives), which is much easier for me to tolerate.

just a note to new user's of papaya, I cut mind up fresh daily and put them in my long cooking oatmeal, if you eat just plain fresh, a hint, squeeze lime juice on then lightly salt, it brings a better flavor out of the papaya. for ripeness look for them on then yellow or brownsih, to touch like on the fat part of hand, not much softer than that
