Am I able to bath with an enterocutaneous fistula? I have one from my ileum to my skin of my abdomen. I love to take baths but I am afraid I might infect my fistula if I do so. Does anyone know anything about this?

P.S. Smallgit I miss our talks, are you feeling better? Please drop me a line my email is ...

My GI said it was fine to take a bath, and even swim with my fistula.  I passed on the swimming I just think it would be gross being in a public pool with an open hole in my body.  I really don't see how water and soap will harm your fistula or infect it, I would think it would only help clean it out and keep infection away.

I'm not smallgit, but I bathed with my enterocutaneous fistula with no problems.  I just had another resection surgery on April 1, so no more fistula for me.  However, I had mine for about 9 months and would bathe frequently to help with back pain.

I have a colocutanuous fistula, I cover mine with a bit of gauze and then some Opsite for showering and swimming.

I can't take a bath as it would have to be no hotter than my body temperature (I have a massive hernia, and I don't want to cook my intestines).

I would not want to bath in water in which my fistula out put mixes. I would also not swim in lake water with an exposed fistula for threat of parasites or swimming pools as this could contaminate the water, not to mention what those chemicals can do to our bodies.

That said, I see no reason to cover it with a waterproof barrier and then have a good looong soak

Oh God, how I miss baths.
