I need some help figuring this out.. so i went down on my fentanyl to 12mcg.. im now eating less and it is really pissing me off. Excuse my language.

the "left side" swelling/pain/soreness on the buttcheek has went down by nearly 75%.. its "tolerable" now. ONLY because i went down on the fentanyl and im using the bathroom 6-8 times a day now?

so what does this tell us? PLEASE someone help me figure this out.

Heres what me and my stepmom RULED out: (shes in the medical field.. Caregiver / hygenist)
we ruled out hematoma, bedsore, bloodclot of any kind, abscess or fistula because of no fever or drainage and repetitive behaivor.

Im starting to think its either a cyst that keeps filling up when my bowels are not moving fast enough.... or sluggishness etc.. etc..
so maybe it is some type of bacterial overgrowth? Pressure on the buttock from colon?

Im thinking about asking for a coarse of antibiotics. Which cant hurt.

because a lot of the times my stool looks like complete brownish coffee liquid/mucus.. that color.

Have you had your doctor check it? Could be cellulitis, since you're on immunosuppresing drugs. If so, you might need abx.

I'm diabetic and on Remicade for IBD, and I have had a couple of bouts of cellulitis, however mine was in the facial area.

Hello, I am Kitt and my husband who has had Crohn's Disease for 33 years just had his fourth major resection.

From reading your post I feel that it would be in your best interest to make an appointment to see your physician. Self-diagnosis can be dangerous and Crohn's is a disease that can fool you so please don't try to analyze your problem yourself and experiment with your medications but see your physician. If you find you disagree strongly with your physician you can always obtain a second opinion.

I encourage my husband to follow up with his team of physicians as they have the education, and experience as well as being up on all the newest treatments for this disease. Acting as your own advocate is the best thing you can do when living with Crohn's.

Take care,

Kitt

Just FYI you can have an abcess and not have a fever....both me and a friend of mine have CD and have had abcesses and never had fevers.

I agree with Kitt that you really need to have a Dr ruling these things out. Has your dr done tests to try to figure out what's going on? Have they ruled things out with tests already? I'm just concerned because something serious could be going on and self medicating sometimes masks things that really need attention.

I dont think you guys understand. ive already stated there is no draining, and nothing broke the skin and nothing came to a head. ive already had my pcp examine it and determined it wasn't an abscess or fistula. already 2 opinions from 2 medical professionals.

im convinced its the fentanyl.

ive talked to my G.I and my pcp today.
#1 - stopping the fentanyl and moving to oral percocet. (should most likely take away this)
#2 G.I said i am going to start 3-4 weeks of prednisone to help the methotrexate get on it's feet.

ill keep you all updated as i normally do.

Believe it or not, but I actually am in the process of trying to heal an abscess in the exact same area and it has not been pretty. Mine started out without a fever but eventually progress to one right before it finally burst. It started out with a hardening under the skin and over the course of a couple months it just kept filling up more and more. Then one day i noticed a small pimple looking thing on it and it would not drain but just a little bit. I began having nightsweats and fevers along with severe exhaustion. Finally I had enough of it and decided to drain it myself and punctured it with a new syringe. At first it only drain a little but over the course of about 24 hours it developed a white head like a zit and I pushed on it. Being a guy I still think it was so amazing to see what came out of it and how much. It exploded all over the mirror and door of my bathroom and kept drain white stuff that looked like yogurt.
It felt so good the next day and my energy returned, so I waited 2 weeks before talking with my doctor about it. In that 2 weeks, I noticed that a huge ulcer about the size of a fifty cent piece was now there with a huge and deep opening in the center. It also started to fill up again and the night and now day sweats started up. I then broke out all over with foliculitis and have staph infection. It has closed now after nearly a month but still fills up again everytime I go off of the I.V. antibiotics and the oral antibiotics. It has been really hard and I hope that none of you have to go through it like I have. I have had staph a couple times and get a huge dose of remicade every 4 weeks which made me more likely to get sick. If I were you I would contact your doctor asap and not make the same mistake that I made. I thought that it was nothing at first because i have had several boils and one that had to be surgically removed. This was the one that I did not have looked at right away and it was the worst of all of them. Again, it is on my left cheek also about 5 inches below my waist. Sound familiar?

I think im going to have this post locked. I love you guys and dont want to offend.
I really don't know what else to say.

I said there is no "boil" 100 times. NOTHING has broke the skin. Just feels like a BRUISE. a swollen bruise. Ive had this ON and OFF for some reason in the same spot for just under a year. Because of being on fentanyl on and off. Who knows maybe it is bacterial related i dont know. all i know is, if i havent drained in nearly a year...? Id have a major problem by now.

Haha. i love you navy.

it's more than a skin issue. the skin feels soft and fine. its what is under that skin. feels like what it feels like if you got punched in the arm by someone. just a bunch of blood or something like there was damage. feels like im sitting on a 2 and a half buttcheeks. thats what i guess im trying to say.

took off the patch this morning.. we'll see what happens.. mentally? its going to drive me crazy.

well you know what to do about mental issues of anxiety...get some meds to help with the withdrawl, this is quite common when weening off of narcs  (make sure you tell the psych doc that you are weening off narcs, there are some antianxiety meds that can really help with pain management as well)

Do not forget to try just some common sense stuff like put a cold pack on it.  But seriously do not withdrawl from narcs without help.  It will take weeks under the best of circumstances.
