So I had my appointment with my new GI and he had time to study everything... he has come to the same conclusion. Definitely crohn's with lymphangiectasia in the small bowel. I am flaring again and the pain in my joints is horrible.. they are swollen and painful, I also have ulcers in my mouth.. he feels that the first course of prednisone was not long enough and wants me to go on a longer course eventually tapering off and going on Pentasa. He only wants me to use Pentasa until I am in remission. He feels that patients should not stay on medication management which I know differs from many opinions here. I did ask him what would happen if I revert back and he said that he more than likely would just keep me on pentasa.. but check with me on a regular basis.. that there are many medications out there and he won't leave me hanging.

I am scared of the Prednisone because of what I read here but at this point its a plan...the first course of prednisone worked wonders and I do wonder if a longer course would help the inflammation. He did say the lymphangiectasia should be brought under control with the steroids.

I asked about vitamins and he recommended I take a multi ... he wants me to get off the ensure because of its price and sugar. Oh, and he wants me to watch my intake of high fructose sugars..cook veggies.. nothing raw... you know..just watch my diet and keep track of troubling foods and things that make me feel good...

I guess one step at a time.. did I forget anything??

The med roller coaster can be quite frustrating at times. It sounds like your GI is willing to communicate with you regularly so that should help to see what meds work for you. Personally I can't tolerate Pentasa, but do well with Asacol. Good luck!

Well with Crohns being a chronic and incurable bowel disease I totally disagree with your doctor. I learned a very painful and traumatic lesson on what happens if you don't treat this disease at all times. So my personal opinion is that you should at least consider staying on Pentasa for life as long as it keeps your Crohns in check (that is of course after your Pred wean). I too like Irishmom4 am successfully maintained on just Asacol and I have been in remission for 5 years now. Good luck! JMHO

I keep crying today... still in so much pain ... didn't sleep last night...I am so done... just want to feel human again.. I still think this is crazy... how can I feel so wonderful in november and than get hit like this in december? it doesn't make sense...just want the meds to work ... turning 40 has been awful...

Nanners, you were the first person I thought of when he said that...I will try the Pentasa but if I can't tolerate it I will ask about Asacol.

Thank you .
