I had two obstructions in the past, the symptoms were extreme pain coming and going in waves, no gas, and finally vomitting.  Sometimes you hear loud noises coming from your intestines, it's because the gas cannot pass through the obstruction.  If it's only a partial obstruction, then you may be able to pass some gas or have d, but still very painful.  You will know that it's time to go to the hospital, which in my opinion is the best you can do, because obstructions usually do not pass on their own, you need medication and pred.

Hope I helped,

Christina

I've had 2 major obstructions, surgery was the only way out for me, or it would have ruptured, I gewt what i call gas blockages, they last 2-8 hrs of cramping then i start to pass gas, I know I'll be ok, then for 1 or 2 days it feels like I have been kicked in my stomach at the resection site. 40 yr's with cd

I have suffered a few obstructions. My obstructions have horrid pain that comes in waves much like labor pains (I explain like someone took a dropper of acid and drops one drop that spreads and gets worse with each contraction), the pain is localized around the belly button area, I cannot pass air thru either direction, no stools though I feel like I need to go, and then the nausea and sometimes vomiting up of bile/stool. Once the nausea starts I know its time to hit the ER. The pain with my obstructions has always been so bad, that I have NO choice but to go to the ER. Hope that helps.
