Prednisone is supposed to help that kind of thing, too... But back when I was on prednisone, I was having issues with my joints as well...

I'm not exactly sure why that is... Perhaps the inflammation is really bad? Or perhaps its the pressure in the air (is it cloudy out? Rainy? Storming?)...

A lot of people with Crohn's have joint issues... I think it is definitely something you should talk to your doctor about...
I think I am being picked on by life, sometimes. But's that okay. Life and I are good buddies... I know life doesn't mean no harm. It just is the way it is. I can accept that.

I always have arthritis Flares right after I have mini-IBD activity. Arthritis & numerous other joint issues are well-known complications of CD. You might need to consult a Rheumatologist.

I suffer from joint issues related to Crohn's. Had a bad arthritic flare last spring where my knees, ankles, right pinky and jaw were swollen and hurt. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs did the trick for me. My acu also gave me a vegetarian glucosamine that seemed to help within two days of taking it. Complete relief took a couple of months, but I was able to get it under control without adding to my prescription regimen. I only took/take Pentasa, along with fish oil, a vegetarian lactobacillus probiotic (I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS STRAIN FOR CROHN"S), glucosamine and a Chinese anti-inflammatory herb called Isatis Cooling. I feel for you. The joint pains can be debilitating. Best of luck.

Oh yes I understand the knee pain:( It sucks!! I will be having a total knee replacement soon and scared to death about that. I did find out though that the damage to my knees was not really from the Crohns but more genetics. Though he did say having Crohns didn't help the situation. Hope yours get feeling better soon. I know when I first wean off Pred I will have an increase in joint pain for a bit. Good luck!

Interesting.....that the drugs are supposed to help this....I have been on prednisone and Imuran for the past three weeks (for the first time) and I started experiencing knee pain for the first time last week. It seems to be getting worse as the week goes on.

I really wonder if one of the common links with Crohn's is a lack of lactobacillus. Many traditional GIs won't give any credence or consideration to this since they were never trained/don't receive continuing Ed on this. My acupuncturist conducted a CDSA stool test on me a year ago when my Crohn's-related arthritis flared. The test showed that I had zero growth of lactobacillus. Another Crohn's patient and an ulcerative colitis patient of hers also had zero growth of lactobacillus. I will say, since I started on it (along with acupuncture and Chinese herbs), my symptoms have totally resloved and the swelling has gone, too. I REALLY, REALLY think this may be a common thread for all of us and I hope others will try a lactobacillus strain for a couple of months to see if they improve.

Nanners, best of luck to you. Hugs.

LoLo: Humira brought out joint pain I'd NEVER had before in my life after about 7 months on it. That's why I'm now on Cimzia and things are much better. I have no idea why it happened either!

jhicks: Where do you buy lactobacillus? How much of it do you consume a day?

I've had severe leg pain since weening off prednisone last year.  I still have it and have been to several docs who can only say its my crohns inflammation ??  IDK.  I have found no correlation between the leg pain and my remicade infusions.  Sometimes my legs kill me after an infusion which makes no sense.  ?? I hope you get the answer you need.  If you do, let me know pls???
Current meds:  Remicade
Tried:  Prednisone, sulfasalzine, lialda, antibiotics, imuran
