I have been horribly constipated for the past month and my doctor recently put me on the smallest dose of Lactulose and I ended up in the hospital for five days from sever dehydration from throwing up and diarreah(sp?) When I was in the hospital I saw a different doctor that was on call who i have seen before and is from the same practice as my ped. GI and he suggested I speak with my doctor about taking something for motility? He said since my ileocecal valve was removed during my last surgery that the bacteria is overgrowing in my intestines and that causes the constipation( i didnt go for two and a half weeks!!! rolleyes   is anyone else on something for motility? I have never heard of this, is it a common problem? what do they give you for it? will it go away or will it be something I should take medication for the rest of my life?

thanks guys.

First off do you use Probiotics? If not, that really is something you need to add into your med regimen. Crohnies tend to have an overabudance of bad bacteria, and the probiotics add good bacteria back into your intestinal tract to even things out. Due to my resections I tend to have problems with bacterial overgrowth myself. Doc had me do a 10 day course of Cipro and change to a better probiotic and I am feeling much better. I take Primadolphilus Fortify and it has helped alot with my constipation too. I still use stool softners nightly, but now only have to take one instead of the two I was taking. Some of the other brands folks on this forum use are VSL#3, Align, Culterelle and Florastar. Hope that helps.
