My starter pack of Humira is arriving Friday!
My Dr. prescribed this back in January, but due to his front office staff's incompetency,I finally took this out of their hands and made all the phone calls myself to get this prior authorized through my insurance. All they had to do was fill out the prior auth form and fax it back and that took 3 different times. Kept saying they couldn't find it. I finally told them I was going to have the insurance company send the form to me and show up at the office to have the Dr. fill it out while I watched and it was suddenly found, filled out and faxed back the same day.
I do like this doctor, but his office staff drive me insane. I'm not sure if they are just overworked and they don't have a clue, but I want to switch doctors just because of them. I work for a mental health agency which includes a child psychiatrist. We prescibe alot of meds that have to get prior auth'd and while it can be a pain, it is really not that difficult. Especially when other meds have been tried and failed.
Sorry, just had to rant. But I am glad I am finally getting the meds. It was either Humira or pred again, so guess what my choice was...!
Dx'd w/ Crohn's in 1979 at age 14. Bad flare 2008 but no health insurance so I dealt with it. Colonoscopy in July 2009 caused a perforated colon, emergency bowel resection. 2 fistula's, perianal and perivaginal.
Dr. wants to try Humira...STILL waiting on that! Not sure what is taking so long...
Currently just take a probiotic, a multivitamin, calcium, magnesium, and fish oil. I also take Tramadol 50 mg and Klonopin (for anxiety) as needed.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance!
