My friend asked me if I ever tried herbal remedies for my Crohns and did some research with me.  Has anyone used this White Willow stuff and found it helpful?

Managing Crohn's Disease Symptoms with Herbs

Managing the symptoms, side effects and complications which arise with Crohn's disease is the primary goal of most doctors and medical specialists. The same effects however, can be achieved by using safer, more gentle substances in your body instead of the commonly prescribed drugs. There are many herbs and herbal remedies which work quite well for addressing, reducing, and in some cases eliminating the side Crohn's disease symptoms and side effects.

Inflammation of the intestinal lining is another common complication of Crohn's disease, and there are several herbs which can help reduce or eliminate this problem as well. White willow is a natural anti-inflammatory herb which will also reduce pain for instance.

25 year old female, diagnosed with Crohn's in 2002 after being misdiagnosed with Lyme Disease for a year.  Have been on Prednisone, Asacol, Entocort, and Remicade in the past.

Currently on 100 50 mg of Mercaptopurine.  Just got put back on Asacol and Entocort.  I hate swallowing pills.  5 day hospital stay April '10.  Have to be put on 2 antibiotics and (cry) 40 35 30 mg of Prednisone.  Turning into a walking zombie with the lack of sleep (around 2 hours a night), but at least I've been super productive!

Just be cautious...some may have unintended consequences...Willow is a precursor to aspirin...which, while it DOES relieve inflammation in most people, it may not for those with IBD (think NSAID) it may be worse and/or may interact with some med you are already taken...ask your doc or pharmacist...

it is my experience that these single ingredient herb remedies (boswellia, slippery elm, white willow, bee propolis and a million others) don't work or work to a degree that doesn't make them worth it.
Crohn's Colitis diagnosed 6/08
Organic SCD since 4/09
Remicade since 6/09
Boswellia + Natren's Healthy Trinity probiotic + Cinnamon + Wild Oregano Oil + vitamin D + zinc + Barlean's fish oil
Remission

Yeah, I'm not very optimistic. I got really excited at first with all the links and articles my friend found me, but when I went into the vitamin store and the guy typed Crohn's Disease into his computer, White Willow didn't even make the list! Plus, all it says on the bottle it "good for minor muscle pain after exercise." Meh.

I don't know, it wasn't expensive so I bought a bottle. I'll see if it does anything I guess. Can't hurt, right? (Probably can't help either, grrr)
