It sounds like most of you on here have tried a number of medicines before finding something that works. So far I have tried Pentasa, Asacol HD & now Entocort, and honestly, if anything, the medicine seems to make things hurt more than it makes them feel good. Pentasa and Asacol made my upper left quadrant hurt, and now Entocort seems to be making my lower right quadrant (ileum?) feel sore. Ive read that on most of these medicines side effects lists that they can actually make the Crohns worse, rather than better, at which point they should cease being used. Thing is, how do you know if it is the medicine making it worse, or its the actually Crohns and the medicine just hasnt kicked in yet?

My Crohns isnt terribly bad (KNOCK ON WOOD!), and it seems like since I have been on medication, it seems to have become much more noticable. Kind of becoming frustrated.

Also, this might be my OCD here, but since starting the Entocort, I am paranoid that the pills arent dissolving and are getting stuck in my ileum, which is causing the pain. Is this even possible? I mean, even if the pills dont resolve right away, its not possible for pills to contribute to a backup or blockage if they dont dissolve, right?

Confused-

Thanks
Zach

May I ask how long you've been on the Entocort for?
I know for me it takes 2 months min to get use to the drug and for it do to any good and see some sort of improvement. I always get the side effects of meds (just my kind of luck) and it def would accrue during the first few months of starting it (especially the entocort) but with some patience and continuing to take it I did see improvement!!!
Good luck!!! xoxo
Tracy from montreal. Dx with Cd 7 years ago but un-Dx for 10 years. Meds currently taking;Imuran (1 and half tab daily)Humira (bi-weekly) pentasa, been on prent 4 times but horrible side effects doc wont use this on me anymore. Humira has put my CD into remission, after using remicade for a year and half which caused remi induced arthritis. I am currently (most days) arthritis free. Currently dealing with endometriosis.

Two months?
Wow, I have only been on Entocort for 2 weeks!
I was on Pentasa about 5 weeks, and Asacol HD no more than 3-4 weeks.
Was I not on them long enough????

With those drugs, they are topical versus systemic and I would say that you would see improvement within days. I have failed all drugs, up to and including remicade.
"What can't be changed must be endured" - unknown

DX with distal Crohn's colitis Oct 2007, predominantly in rectum
Colozal and Canasa for 2+ years - developed an intolerance
6MP - elevated LFTs after 100mg, no effect after 9 months
Currently: Remicade (Nov '09), and Paleo Diet. Not quite remission, but so much better!
