I've was in what they consider remission for 6 years. But, no longer :( am having major flare-ups. Lots and lots of pain, D and nausea. ugg. Doc is putting me on Cimzia and I was wondering if anyone here is on it and if they can tell me of the side effects they have when taking it. Do you get the flu like feeling after injection, etc?

A little background. I was on Remicade for a year before the remission and it caused a lot of side effects, joint pain mostly. So bad I was walking with a cane. They took me off of it because of being allergic to it. (Hives and other reactions during infusion) I've also tried almost every other drug with nothing working for me.

If the Cimzia doesn't work we are going to have to try Tysabri, but I'm soooo nervous about that, being it has a black label.

Thanks all!

Jeny, I took Cimzia for a year while it was in the clinical trial stages and have been on it again for about the last year.  I haven't had any side effects since being on it this second time but I used to get injection site whelts and frequent upper respiratory infections while on it in the trial.  But, I also had those same side effects with Humira.  I've never had any flu like feelings.  I also had to stop Remicade due to allergic reactions.  Cimzia has kept my crohn's in remission but isn't helping as much as we hoped for the arthritis, so we are having to try to treat it with other meds.

Crohn's Disease, Acid Reflux/Gastritis, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Endometriosis, Arthritis, Depression/Anxiety.  Too many meds to list them all.  =)

Curious why you are not considering Humira?

My doctor says that Cimzia might work better for me than Humira. She said they are having trouble with some of the over weight patients no reacting as well. Something about absorbtion. I'm over weight so she thought this would be a better fit. It's curious tho, how Cimzia is given the same way but doesn't have the same problem...I'm not sure. I should have asked.
