I’m having my fistula surgery tomorrow.  I’m pretty much just waiting for the Magnesium citrate to kick in : (   But I wanted to thank everyone who has been sending me great advice, helpful tips and putting a lot of my fears to rest.  I really appreciate it and I hope I won’t have to have anymore surgeries dealing with this anymore  :)

Thanks for all the well wishes! I did have a problem with the anesthesia, apparently I’m very resistant to the medicine they give you to sedate you and I woke up when they were putting the tube down my throat and bit my tongue and got a little combative lol. I feel bad but thankfully I don’t remember doing that : ) My pain has been moderate, I have been taking extra vitamins that are suppose to promote healing and the pain medicine is taking care of the pain. I’m a little worried I’m started to feel this mysterious bump on the rectum area, It appeared last night and I’m scared I popped a stitch during an astham asthma attack., hopefully it’s just a swollen region from the surgery.

Hi seraphina-

I hope you're feeling better. If I remember correctly, I didn't have stitches down there for the fistula surgery. As I recall my doctor explaining it to me, they can't "close" that area, because of the bacteria present - it's really a bad location!!! ;) So they don't put stitches and leave it open, they just "pack" it with gauze, to put pressure on the wound, and put clotting stuff to help your body clot and heal by itself. One thing I do when I worry about how things feel down there is I use a large make up mirror I have and put it down to look at it. I've got a different image of myself since I had this surgery!!!! ;) Sometimes things "feel" a lot large and worse than they actually are... But if you're really worried, please call your doc to make sure you're OK and relief your worries. Keep us posted and take care.

The doctor told me she had to put stiches, I'm not sure where I know they shortened the track or something, she explained to my husband because i was struggling coming to from the anesthesia. I know this is probably disgusting but i made my husband take a picture of it with my iphone... yes i deleted it but that way I could really examine it, I guess its the scientist in me lol. I just feel bad calling because nobody told me I bit my tongue so I woke up later that night with a swollen numb tongue and sunburn marks on my face that were not there when i left the hospital, so i freaked out and called the on call surgeon, I thought i was having a weird reaction lol So, I feel bad calling and asking, I think the bump is normal because I saw some pictures and it looks sorta like some other pictures. I'm not in very little pain so that is a happy point, I'm taking vitamins that promote healing so I'm crossing the fingers this heals fast and stops draining :) Did you have your surgery done yet? How is it doing?
