Colostomy reversal question

After a reversal of a colostomy, what happens to where the colostomy was?  Do the surgeons stitch it shut or leave it open and it closes on its own?  I have read of the former, but was told of the later.

In my case it was sewn together.

It depends on your doc's preference.
