I had an ultrasound done a couple weeks ago... (for other reasons separate from Crohn's). But, when the report was written, the doctor noted "a prominent bowel loop within the pelvis rounding the ovary with thickening of the bowel wall." So... I've got a call in to my GI, but I wanted to see if any of you might be able to help decipher this for me. I know the thickening is a factor of scar tissue and/or inflammation. But, what about the "loop" part?

Oh, they are also now concerned I might have a fistula between the small intestine and the sigmoid part of the colon. We'll know for sure on my scope, in July.

Oddly, I'm not upset about this stuff. But, of course, I do wonder what it means and if I should be concerned.

Thanks...

You have some 20 feet of small intestine. The only way it will fit in our abdomens is by looping round and round. So a loop just means a section of small intestine. Actually, a loop would indicate a section of the ileum as the first two parts of the small intestine, the duodenum and jejunem, are much shorter and not looping around in the abdomen.
My computer says I need to upgrade my brain to be compatible with its new software.

great! thanks! It's actually in the large intestine, but I'm guessing it's the same thing and just a normal description. Thanks for the translation.
