I've read so many of your posts and you seem so well read in many areas, that I wonder if you would
mind if I picked your brain a little. Firstly, you know that I have both crohns and chronic pancreatitis, the
CP was originally caused by two severe attacks of acute pancreatitis while on 6mp. Secondly, and this is
where I want to pick your brain. Why do you think that these pancreatic issues seem to be worsening at
an alarming rate, even though I'm receiving good treatment? My triglycerides are very high, (never had
this problem before the acute attacks) and they are having a problem getting them down, and I know how
important it is to get them low. I guess I just don't understand any of what is happening to me. I don't if
you can help clarify anything for me, but it would help me some if I understood.
I hope you don't mind me asking...

I hope you are doing better...however some of your reactions are VERY similar to mine...except it was Imuran for me...got acute pancreatitis...taken off the meds...yet I was still having issues...turns out I also have PSC (Primary Sclerosing Colangitis) which is another disease that is associated with IBD...for some others they can have issues with the pancreas too...but either way, have they done an ERCP to check things out? That was how I was dx'd (because labs were not totally definite, and don't become that way until you start needing a new liver)...but an ERCP (also some imaging done at the same time using fluroscope and ultrasound) can check out both your liver and pancreas. Hope this helps...just from my own experience...

Becoming undone, I should have explained that I've already had ERCP's & MRCP's actually several of them
now, to track the extent of damage and function loss. It's just the way it seems to be getting so much worse
in a relative short space of time!!

dunny2: Thank you-but here is my disclaimer . . .I am not a physician and am on an accelerated pathway of disease knowledge. . . . just like ya' all.

So here is my interpretation of what I have read and also have included some reputable web sites in the reference list (the top 2 better than the last one).

Crohn's disease - unknown etiology (don't know what the heck causes it) but the medical field points fingers to up regulated immune status. So if the immune system is busy attacking itself by not recognizing foreign vs self tissues then all of the body is at risk of attack. Organs of digestion then are more susceptible than others-and pancreatitis is an extension of this process. One of the common themes that runs through many lives on this discussion board is gallbladder disease. The gallbladder is tucked underneath the liver and dumps bile into the small bowel in response to fatty foods needing breakdown. (the gallbladder is just designed to hold the bile that the liver produces).

So liver complications: (primary sclerosing cholangitis) causes narrowing and obstruction of the ducts draining the liver as a result of inflammation and scarring.

This is discussion is only about the disease process and doesn't even touch the side effects of the medications used to treat the the varied symptoms of crohns.

As an addendum to my disclaimer-the harder part of each of our lives is acceptance, compliance and peace. Please only reference the references if they won't be to upsetting. Hope this helps!
